I sold my 85 250R trike so I could get the 4-wheeled version. The trike was fun, but I knew I would just get more use out of the quad. I've had this about a week now. It's an 86 with 88 plastic in pretty good shape. I took it to the rinky-dink atv park near here yesterday and it rips, runs really well. Turns quite a few heads also lol. I just have a few cosmetic things to do to it to make it my own, and some cleaning and chassis maintenance. Engine doesn't need any work. I'm not going to restore it or make it really nice since I plan to ride it a lot.

It's fun to switch between this and my KFX 400. This thing reminds me a lot of the YFZ450 I had 3 years ago. Makes my KFX feel like riding a 4x4 quad since it sits so high and rides so smooth compared to this.

Nice looking bike. If the fenders aren't cracked, pull them off and get some Maiers to ride around on. I hope you enjoy it they are fun bikes.

The plastic looks better in the pics than in person. There a just a couple small cracks, not nice enough to make me want to spend the coin on aftermarket to shelf these. Besides, I never crash!!!

Just as fast but with an extra wheel! Body-wise it's not as nice or as original as the trike

Been doing a little bit of work on the 250R. I got some used but nice Dunlops on Craigslist and some new black wheels. I got the Maier 88-89 hood, but unfortunately they don't make the 88 oem color red anymore, so I'm going to have to figure out how to color match it at least somewhat. The 88 oem fenders look prety orange under the garage lights. I have a headlight on the way.

What a beauty! How do you like it compared to a 400ex?

I have only ridden a 400ex a handful of times, but I can say at this point i do like it more than my KFX 400. It sits so much lower and it makes you feel like a faster rider. But then again they are 2 quads designed for 2 different purposes really. The KFX wasn't really designed to be a race quad. The 250R reminds me of a YFZ450 I had 3 years back.

Looks nice Still IMO the 88-89 trx is still the best looking 4 wheeler built, Colors plastics design over all stance. I'm now 100% familiar with all the banshees but the early year banshees that were red and white and the later all blue ones look nice too. Nice machine.

"The 250R reminds me of a YFZ450 I had 3 years back except it runs, it's fast, and is dependable"

Hey you aren't too far off there. I meant in the way it handles it reminds me. I bought a YFZ with its motor in a box. It had seized up, and this was the second time it had done it and the owner was tired of it so I got it for cheap. I bought the complete roller for $1000 with the junk engine. I was able to get about $500 parting out the engine, and then I bought a complete engine to drop in for $1000. So for $1500 I had an 04 YFZ450 (this was in 2008). I rode it for a few months and sold it for $3000. I only bought it to fix up and sell, never planned on keeping it.

Here's another update. I decided to ditch the Maier hood since I was going to have to paint it to match the oem fenders. I found a complete 88 hood/headlight on eBay to finish the look. It wasn't cheap but to get the look I was after I had to bite the bullet. I also bought some new reproduction decals since the original ones were pretty beat up.

Thanks man, I've always liked the look of red Hondas with black rims. I haven't ridden with these wheels yet so I will have to see how they hold up. Hopefully they don't scratch too easy. I got them from Rocky Mountain

Thanks man, the 88 is my fave quad too. This is actually an 86 also. You can see it still has gold a-arms and swinger, and maroonish frame. I got lucky and it came with the 88 plastics when I bought it.
