Picked up a saw with a melted piston. I think the cylinder actually didnt gouge, but has some pasted on aluminum. Whats the best plan of attack? Its a coated alum cyl. Any sort of acid i can use to loosen it up? I dont want to take a hone to it.

I've been told Easy Off oven cleaner works, never tried it myself though.

Carefully used, muriatic acid will do the trick. But, take ALL precautions, and don't over-do it, especially with a plated cylinder....

I've used Muratic in a pinch to put back together a motor. I made a "swab' with a welding rod and a bunched up piece of shop towel. Worked good enough to run it for a few races!

Very good, i was leaning toward the acid but was scared. Thanks for the green light to use it!

Be very careful with it Jeff. It's nasty stuff!

My dad and I used Muriatic on a Yamaha Phazer snowmobile that melted a piston. As far as I know that sled is still running somewhere.

Worked mint, was like wiping my ass, a little scrubbing and its all gone. In fact, i may keep a bottle of this in the dump-house for the day after taco night!
