Lol, dude wants 2500 firm, it runs great, easy 2 kick, idles, stops, lots a chrome, bla bla bla, etc. I want a cool 250r, someone agree that this is the one I need! Haha

Thank you! That's the kind of comments I was wanting 2 hear! I like the stance of this thing, the overall look, colors and chrome accents. Chrome gets you home right?! Haha, I'm getn all the specifics on the engine build, it was supposedly done up by a reputable guy near the area. Runs on 110 octane (no puttn around the barnyard on this baby). Looks like it was all put together with serious intentions. Ill keep u guys posted. Thanks

Not to crap on your picnic but for that price I would be looking for OEM plastic. But 250Rs are not hard to come by around here lol.

Yeah, lookn a little closer at the pics I see the lack of rear motor mount and the busted out bolt holes..... u guys think that's a deal breaker?? Anything else I should look for? I will probably pick her up 2moro..... unless the experts here talk me out of it. I wish I had a larger pool of 250Rs 2 choose from around here but its slim pickins. Thanks guys

Well I wouldnt call them deal breakers, maybe something you can use to knock the price down. You also might look into the rear suspension as it seems to be sitting low. Hopefully when the extended swingarm was put on they built the shock for it.(heavier spring/revalve) Also you mention its an 86 but that is an 88-89 frame. The swingarm bolt on 86-87 go through back of the motor. Good luck :beer

"The swingarm bolt on 86-87 go through back of the motor."
I do not agree with that statement.
I forget exactly what years do what but one style of swingarm had a separate motor support that went in the middle of the swingarm, this is the support mentioned that "isn't" there. I think this is the 86 style.
The newer r's had a solid swingarm and utilized motor mounts on the frame. If it is a 89 frame, this is why there is no motor mount (swingam style).
If you look at the pic (pipe side) you'll see the motor mount bolt in front of the swingarm bolt.
To sum up...the swingarm/motormounts are fine.
Like mentioned, the case saver bolt holes broken is what would worry me. If it's not leaking oil, it could be fine.
I used long bolts in mine instead of studs when I had this issue.
Good luck!
R's rule!

Only difference in the motors between 86-89::
86's have the short rod and the cylinder does not have a bridged intake side.
87's up use the long rod style (liked by most all motor builders). The 87 had a lil better cylinder design and the 88-89 cylinders had a bridged intake side and is the cylinder used by all.

My r is a 88 frame with 85 ATC cases, short rod (quick revs), and blah blah from all different years.
The only thing that will not work from year to year is the CDI's. Some years had different connections.

Yeah the guy said 86....can u tell if the engines 88-89 or is there any noticable differences?? Aren't the 88-89s more desirable?

if it's a 86 or 87 motor the gap between 5 and 6 gear kinda kills the motor even with the 310 kit ..

Also, can anyone tell if this is a "powervalve engine"? I'm just starting 2 learn about 2 stroke tech, so forgive my lack of knowledge at this point. Haha, thanks

No it isn't a powervalve cylinder, check out eddiesandersracing.com to learn the difference between pv and non pv set ups.

I don't see a powervalve. It should be above the exhaust port. Looks like a non powervalve cylinder to me.

Its an 86-87 frame (possibly an 87 judging by the front engine mounts) with a 88-89 style swingarm. Someone has welded tabs for the bottom rear engine mount and left the top empty. The 88-89 used rear mounts welded to the frame and the 86-87 bikes used a mount that went in between the swinger like the 85-86 ATC's.

i feel like an idiot today it isnt a pv im not takin enough time to look at all the pics theres an area on top of the exhaust port that resembles a diamond with rounded off points usually the pv will point out from there, i was seeing the exhaust spring from the right side view that looked similar to the actual pv

You can find a real clean example of a 250r for that kind of money around me. Here's one that's about 25 minutes from me.

No biggie, I think bkm bailed us both out. I had my info a bit crossed up also. I should let my brain come up to operating temp before posting in the morning lol. Sorry partsmaster. IMO- keep shopping, but, its your money!:beer

Well guys, I pulled the trigger on her this afternoon (!!!!!) And I must say it is pretty flirking fast! I made a couple hot laps up and down my driveway with the 10 paddle haulers and front runners, I'm gonna have 2 swap over some dirt tires so I don't tear these babies up, but I couldn't resist. Kicks over surpisingly easy when its cold, the powerband is indescribable, I'm sure the 2 stroke gurus know exactly what I'm referring to. Its a very nice machine, lotta money went into chrome plating things, pegs shifter a arms, swinger, heck even the acle and axle lock nut r chrome! Personally I wouldn't put that much chrome into a build but beings its already done, I'm pretty proud of it.

Does have a couple minor issues which shouldn't be a big deal
Rear brakes don't work, m/c not seized but no action when depressed (fronts work great)
No grab bar
Meier rear fenders move around a bit, its latched but "ain't quite right"
Dumping gas outta the carb overflow, most likely a sticky float (?)
Needs new grips
Clark gas tank is a nice ugly faded red which don't match the brilliant orange and black
Broken chain guard mounts

The cases don't appear 2 be cracked at the shift shaft or anywhere else, its nice and tight n the front end, NO play n the wheel bearings, steering stem or rear hubs, no kill switch, no lights. I'm guessing its approx +6" tubular swinger.

The seller said it has a hot rods 4 mil stroker crank n addition to the esr 310 jug, so what does that make it?? It has an esr head pipe, didn't check out the silencer, no air box k&n. Frickn lovin this thing, didn't get but one pic 2day

Ok, let me have it

There is a formula for calculating displacement, but I can never remember it! Lol! But, with that 4 mil stoker crank in it, you should be somewhere around 350cc if I had to take a stab at it...

Haha, yes, we're gonna have 2 line'm up here pretty soon! What am I runnin against? One of trailprotrailpro kawis or trailprotrailpro 250r? Or all ofm? Maybe here in a few weeks we can meet up on a Saturday for a ride day.

From what I've read online, the 310 kit and 4 mil crank makes it a 330!

Thanks guys!
