Zink coating at home?

Have any of you tried or know of a way to do your own zinc coating? I have seen kits for chrome plating at home but it did not look at though it worked very well. If you have done it at home how did it turn out? Is the quality and durability the same as when the part was manufactured and plated new?

Google Coswell or Caswell plating. they sell all kinds of do-it-yourself plating kits, and they supply the "real" plating shops too.
