honda 200s
I just picked up an 85 200s. The problem is it dosnt idle well or even at all. It also dosnt want to start once its warmed up? I replaced the spark plug put fresh gas in it and tried to clear the cylinder of water.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can do before ripping into the carb.

Sounds like carb service is precisely what's needed......

It's not difficult at all if you have some mechanical ability and a little experience. If not, some help from a knowledgeable friend would be a good idea. Somewhere in 3WW there are service manual downloads for many different makes and models. A service manual will guide you step by step through a carb clean/rebuild. Let me look around and see if I can find those downloads and post em up........Stand by......

Thanks so much! Im new to the three wheeler thing (and web sites like this) but I have worked on gas and deisel engines quite a bit. Boats are my thing. Hopefully a god cleaning will do the trick.
thanks again!

Have you checked the air filter?

Happy to help. If you have experience with boat engines, your Honda should be no problem for you. Good luck with it, and make sure you clean that carb really good.

Because he didn't say it wont run at all. Idles badly, and hard to start when warm. First things first ya know? I figured water in the engine could be from bad/separated fuel in the tank, or from sitting outside with no airbox on it. Either way a carb cleaning is in order...

Exactly right on the fuel idea. Working on boats water is always the first suspect. Anyway I have it apart and every thing in the carb looks ok. I also removed the gas tank and afer draining I have discoverd rust/dirt still in the bottom. im trying to get it all out but its hard. The filter looks fine though.

Sounds like that crud in your tank could very well be the culprit. Check your fuel valve too. If it is half plugged up with debris that would definitely cause running issues. But, might not necessarily show up in the fuel filter......
