I would have listed it as a regular ATV so it is not covered in ebay's buyer protection program. Reason being if it is sold "as parts" it is included in the ebay buyer protection program which basically means if the buyer doesn't like the deal for any reason ebay will back them up and get a refund for them unless of course the deal is done in cash or bank check. Whatever you do don't take paypal for this deal!! You could get screwed. Also I believe if it is sold as a regular motor vehicle the fees are significantly less.

Well if no one else bids she is mine. But something tells me it will go past what chump change I have bid.

Andy, best of luck on this one. I wonder what the over/under will be on the amount of Chumps who claim to have another one or they know someone who has one in their basement.

Thanks, guys! Too funny, everyone's now able to say they had it.

don't take paypal for this deal!!

Been down this road before... Ebay sucks and Pay Pal is in a close second. I'm trying to give them as little as possible. Lets be honest this is going to be hard to pull off. To actually sell this bike and get paid is a long shot.
So far I have a $1.70 investment with ebay. Pretty cheap advertising if nothing else.... Keep'n my fingers crossed for some good honest bidders.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement.
Lest anyone think I'm up to tricks here, I merely am trying to draw in a bigger viewing with my "other auctions" and fix a listing error without ending the entire auction all together. I may have to (per ebay only), but will see. Sorry for any confusion. The crated bike should've probably been listed under Powersports, as some members have pointed out.

I understand it to be disappointing to see this possibly go "cheap". Especially for me with the prospects of it being at a loss (as is the current price). Regardless though, I have to stand by my word and follow through. Otherwise I can just join the likes of the bogus sellers we've seen in the past. I'm pretty optimistic that the ending might be a little more active than last year. Though relisted items rarely go higher the second time. If this R goes over 50K I'll be throwing a Packer "kegger" Party for sure!
Anyone know when kick off is?? :beer

Just a question, there is no VIN plate on the neck...not supposed to have one??

Buster Brown

there is no VIN plate on the neck...not supposed to have one??

Sure there's a VIN on the neck. Not a plate though. The serial (VIN) # is stamped into the frame like any other ATC 2520R. Why would you think there's no VIN ??

HERE WE GO AGAIN........ Anyone know of these loosers?

That is not a bad idea! 300 $100 tickets etc ....next year at trike fest? It would be impossible to do an online raffle as far as I know.
Keep listing it on eBay with a 25k reserve. It will sell. I have had many different buyers show up within days of each other.

If Andy's shown anything,,It is he's a man of his word. He'll let this run out, with no manipulations. Highest bidder owns it. It'll get there,,we hope.

whyzee

I would end the auction due to the listing error and relist under powersports. I feel we are going to see more bidders drop off as they will feel they are left holding the bag.
As anxious as we all are with only 5 hours left in the auction, Andy still needs to get as much $ as possible out of this once in a lifetime investment. You must put emotions aside right now , just as the bidders have done. As they wake up this morning and realize they are now the high bidder, they may fold.
There is still the uncertainty of the "unknown " with 5 hrs left to a serious buyer, who is already trying to buy the bike before the auction ends. That "unknown " will help Andy with the price, but as each hour passes the premium of that unknown will dwindle and the price of the bike will directly follow that drop.

Andy will still be a man of his word if he chooses to end the auction. There was a genuine error in the listing category, imho.
Every high dollar R I sold on eBay was sold before the auction ended. Nearly everytime it was sold to a buyer who wasn't even bidding. Not once did the high bidder at the time contact me to ask what happened or to offer a better price. That told me that they were not even serious about buying the bike. If this auction goes to the end , Andy will have less than a 10% chance of getting paid.
It was also stated in my auction that the bike is for sale privately and the auction may end at any time, which helps add to the impulsiveness of a serious buyer and will get you the highest price.

Nearly every single high $ auction is manipulated by either the buyer or the seller. In this auction it has been manipulated by the buyer by " tainting " the auction with canceled bids.

I appreciate the ideas guys. I must admit, I'm about sick of this hole thing. What a fiasco I've made. I was just sharing some thoughts with another member on the phone. Strategy time is over.... Unfortunately for me, I goofed and made a mess of this auction. Should the bidders suffer...?? I made my bed and now I'll lye in it. If this was day 2 of the auction, I'd start over again possibly. Sorry for the let down. I'm tired of being harassed and accused of being an egotistical, attention whore. I know who cares...Bla...Bla...Bla.....
Anyway, off to the liquor store.........

You've done nothing wrong in my eyes Andy. Disappointing??? Absolutely. Hopefully real good things are gonna happen in the next half hour!! Makes my offer a month ago look REAL good! Hopefully we eclipse that mark in a few minutes!! Hang in there ,and you still have one of the most amazing group of bikes out there!! And might I suggest ,,instead of the liquor store,,curl up with those beautiful kids of yours, and realize what's Most important!! This stuff is just metal and plastic.

I'll see what he's comfortable with sharing and let him decide what's to be posted. Not sure if he's a member, as he said he's not that computer savvy. A real nice enthusiast, with a growing collection of machines.

Andy, look at it this way. You owned it, you brought it back into the limelight so that it could be appreciated once again for what it truely is. Other than what it has done the past year or so, what could you really do with it other than sit back and look at it?

Your a working stiff just like the rest of us and share the same rabid enthusiasm about these things as we all do. If you were filthy rich and money was no object there would be no need to sell it, but the welfare of your family comes first and I'm sure this sale just opened up a lot of avenues that were closed due to this bike sitting on the shelf.

Sit back and relish the fact that you had it, you enjoyed it, and were always glad to share it with the rest of us.

I am willing to bet once the dust settles and the Mrs. is happy that the money is now free'd up, and you can start back on your world class restoration on the bikes you have in your stable, it will probably feel like a million pounds has been lifted off your shoulders. No more worries!

Not a bad price Andy , I know you hate to see it go. I believe there must be more machines out there still in the original crates. I've heard stories of a closed honda shop during the Banned era with a warehouse of crated Rs and Xs,may or may not be true but there is a thread on that subject somewhere. There is a chance that someone has a crated ATC but is not computer savy and we would never know about it . You have the only crated R in the world that we know of and prob the only one but Im optimistic. Hope to see another pop up!!! I want to THANK YOU for all the pictures and the the information you have shared with all of us.

Guys, it's been a heck of an up and down adventure. You are all correct in the fact that is going to be missed, but has been an unforgettable thrill. I'll SLOWLY be picking at other projects as you've suggested. Haven't touched the Mugen trike from Kansas yet, and a couple other TRX Rs await. But I'm going to pull WAY back on this stuff, in hopes of keeping what's left, long term. Yes, it's very true if money wasn't an issue this vanity item would be cool just to keep.
The buyer is a blast to visit with. Planning on a few beers and just BS'n for a while. From what I've gathered he's not a member of any of the various ATV forums, but I'll see if I can't get him to pop in. Rather he tell the story now.
Anyway, thanks again for all the really nice comments. You guys are the very best!

I'm not sure I understand the mentality of keeping it in the crate; until it's assembled, it's just a pile of parts. In plastic bags. In a beat-up shipping crate. You can't even tell what it is, looking at it. At least if it was assembled you could have the enjoyment of looking at a beautiful machine that no one's ever even thrown a leg over. The state that it's in now was never intended; it was just to get it from point A to point B. I realize that it may be the only one in this state, but it's a condition that seems to be without any aesthetic or functional value of any kind. Just my opinion...

So rumors are just that.......pics or it did not happen right?

Leave it in the Crate. You want a nice clean low hour machine, they are out there for about $25K less. I believe you will "most" likely never see one in this condition ever again. Not like Honda dealers in the 80's felt it was good for business not to assemble these to make room for new inventory.

I see this one will never die...LOL
The new owner, Scott may have a bit of notoriety out at Glammis. He's the "ELMO" Banshee rider seen in a couple You Tube videos and pictured getting busted by the dune cops. He gave his word he had no plans to assemble it. He's got I think eleven '85-'86 ATC 250Rs (7 pictured).
As for the point of keeping it "as is" in the crate.... I struggled with that too. I would of never assemble it, but it did wear on me as to not being much to look at. It was a rather big investment for the eye candy of a cardboard box. Don't get me wrong that thing was WAY COOL, but building a display case wasn't in the cards for me either. What, ?? ya want to look at the old wrappers and stuff?? IDK, to detail and clean it up for a acrylic glass display would require altering the untouched aspect too much for me. To remove the wrappers and stuff would take away from it's original form. For me a 100% fresh restoration build will better suite my "catch your breath" needs. Here video for a closer look. Scott isn't a computer guy or blogger, so I don't think it will be seen again for quite a while. Like to see him pop in here, but I doubt it will happen. Sorry for my poor skills (& poor camera) with the videos.

I think it still retains it's singular status, in that it's probably the only one that's never been fired or sat on, if you put it in a display case. And your sig is fantastic!
