Should I clean out the spark arrestor on my 85 200s? If so how does it come apart.

Hopefully you'll be able to get the free manuals in the 'world class help' section.
If not, I can try to find out for you.
200s?

I know on the 85 250 es sx there are 2 bolts going into the muffler vertically from the bottom
holding an elongated plate right near the end.
Let me go look.....

Yupp, 2 bolts.
I guess we should all know what those are about.
I've honestly never messed with them.

Wonder if the 200s is the same?

I guess it would be wise for me to walk around and soak ALL the trikes with those bolts
with some pb or liq wrench.

The owners manual for the 87 br says:Note 1 = USA only
and
C: = clean every 30 days.
but they don't say how or what page to look at, like the other stuff.

I guess if they're plugged or 'full' of carbon, they COULD throw sparks, instead of
arresting them if it got hot enough.
My woodstove certainly knows that trick.

Kinda like the fire REstinguisher on country fried home videos.

Thanks I know the bolts you mean. I just saw it in the manual (I think you sent me) but its not real clear, at least no pics, on how it comes apart .I guess if running well I shouldnt bother? Thanks again drjoe youve been very helpfull.

If your asking if you should, probably not.

1. those screws usually suck anytime ive messed with them ive drilled them out
2. who told you that your exhaust was plugged and needed cleaning
3. that is the last thing i would recommend doing to your triped
4. if you do a lot of trail riding or go to tracks you need a spark arrester likely, but if you dont, leave it out, dont bother cleaning it.

It says in the service manual to clean it out every 30 operating days. But I dont think I will. Shes running well now so "If it aint broke dont fix it" right. And your right, those screws are a bugger. One came right out but the other one is already striped.
