Found an 85 sx in my area that I looked at for $600. The electric starter works, but the kick does not. The bike also needs carb work to really run (will only run if you start off of starter fluid or gas in the airbox). Brakes do not work either. Was wanting one for a project, but didn't want to pay too much to get started. The kick start moves out of the case about 3/4" when you try kicking it - as in moves to the right if you are sitting on the bike. I have read that these kickers have a common problem with the one-way clutch, but it this something more than that? Thoughts? Thanks for any help ya'll can offer!!

Hopefully Dirtcrasher will chime in. He is extremely knowledgeable about the sx.
Sounds to me the Sx is worth no more than $300 and even at that it might end up being an expensive parts bike.
bide your time and wait for the next one. While you are waiting you can save a few more bucks and by a much much better trike.
Welcome aboard!

Yep paid $300 from original owner with cert. of origin and original owners manual. All I had to do was clean the carb and re-coat the inside of the tank from sitting. Most of the ones I've seen for sale with no problems go for $400 to $600. Maybe more if they are in really good condition. I think I ride the thing more than my 350x now.

I agree with the other guys. Seems to be too much money. I paid $600 for my 250sx and it might have been a little high looking back. I guess depends on where you live. I'm in Washington state and atc prices seem higher here then other places.
