Well, Im at my 24 hr mark without a cigarette:w00t: I got inspired by the OTC forum when the Mosh's were kicking the habit. I hold up ok untill I get done eating or am sitting in front of the computer and That morning smoke is the worst one for me to resist! I have been wanting to quit for a while and for the past 2 weeks I kept saying, tomorrow Ill quit. Enough procrastinating and get on with it already I figure! I use the mentality that the money I will save on these I can spend on my trikes! I want to be able to breath again and start running and get back in half diecent shape! Man this sux though!!!!! How you been holding up Mosh's? Anyone else out there trying to kick a bad habit?

I quit last January 10th.. Best thing I've ever done.. (3rd time).. The wife and I both quit.. Mostly we did it for the kids. It's our habit, felt guilty putting it on the kids. Even though we never smoked in the cars, or in the house.. Nobody wants to smell like an ashtray. When our daughter goes to her dads for the weekend everything comes back smelling like @$$... Booster seat the whole 9... I can breathe, food tastes eleventybillion times better.. And I don't look like an idiot outside smoking in 10 degree weather..

I'm happy, My kids are proud... Best thing ever.. That's not even considering the money.. that will add up like crazy.. Keep it up homie.. Your life will be so much better without smoking. That much I promise.. I smoked for 20 years and definitely don't miss it.

I have back slid a little here and there. But I am still at it. I am at the point now where they taste like trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro. I can go 3-5 days without and then I have one or 2.
We were self rollers so we have about a pack left to roll. Once they are gone we will not buy more.
Now keep in mind I was not a social smoker. I was a pack and 1/2 day smoker for the last 10 years and regular smoker for 17 years. So it has been really hard for me.
I stopped cold for a week. They say, after 72 hours the nicotene is gone from your body.. it is the mental urge you have to kill, but that only lasts 3 minutes. Stay busy and it will pass..I found playing my guitar keeps me off them too. It is amazing how addicting these damn things are. I never thought I would speak out agianst them, but they really should be illegal.
Lotsa sunflower seeds and candy here, to get by..
Check this site out..Tons of good reading and helped me get through that first week.
The wife has the dinner problem ..After dinner is when she craves..I couldnt move without 2 in the morning before. I dont mind not having them in the morning at all now.
Stay away from beer..that makes you want them even more.
Good luck to you.

I used the nicotine gum then went to mint trident. Been off cigs for over 2 years now. Don't even want one anymore. Best of luck, just think of all the trike goodies you can buy with the $ you will save.

Didnt even open it to see how many but I keep thinking about them... DAMN!!!!! The drinking part would probably get me but have been sober from that almost a year(Dec. 13). Im a recovering boozer and figured I done to many bad things when I was drunk and did a little time for it in 05-06. A buddy of mine bought one of those electronic cigs. He describes it as being like a glass of water when you are really hungry. It helps but doesn't make the urge completely co away. Best thing he likes about it is he can "smoke" it inside his workplace.

Good luck quitting it. There used to be a quit calculator floating around on the web that would add up the amount of money you would save. The number after 20 years is a huge amount of money.

A quit calculator? Thats pretty cool but am afraid of what I might find out. Pack a day for 10 years now. Should have a caculator on how much of my life is gone because of these. Ive watched my grandfather die a painful death from these years ago but didnt stop me. I think the biggest thing is my kids! I coach football and baseball and now my oldest want to race BMX and me to race with him. This would be rough smoking but I still get on my BMX bike and can still tear it up pretty good for a 30 yr old kid:lol: We have a few jumps in our horse pasture that we hit every now and again but I am so winded, its just time to stop smoking and enjoy life with out the wheezing!

Maybe make it interesting somehow. Get a few that want to quit and throw a few dollars up for a pot and whoever backs out loses their money. Gotta be honest and got to have someone neutral to hold cash or parts or what ever. This may not work but would make it interesting and maybe get a few to attempt(hopefully succeed). Anyone got any ideas to make this interesting? Just a thought, Im going through with it anyhow!

Quit 9/23/96, never forget the day. Best thing I ever did was to quit. I was somewhat lucky towards the end of being a smoker....a puff of cig and I would start to dry heave so quitting was not too bad. Mosh is right tobacco should be illegal, but the gubment would lose a ton of tax money so that's not happening anytime soon. A pack of smokes when I quit was around 3 bucs, I was in line behind some lady who bought three packs of Marlboro's and the total was freaking 20 bucs, what a rip off!!!

Right before I quit a 70 year old man told me the craving would never go away, for me it did...for others it does not. So For once in your life be a quitter!!!

Do not bum any more smokes and quit buying them-simple. You are now a non-smoker!!

So if you smoked a pack a day, quit in September 96 and they were $3 bucks then, and they are $5 now. We will say they cost $4 per pack. You saved $22,185.78 according to this calculator.

ok, now for some stupid stuff, based in science.
I lied to the lottery hotline and said I spent my last 2$ on a ticket and couldn't even buy dog food.
The 2$ was true, but my dog's been gone since 1986.
anyway, they said I qualify for free counseling because it's, well, funded by the lottery.
and they need to show customers to keep getting grant $, or grant monkeys or lunch money, I wasn't really listening.

But the bottom line is:

FREE counseling for whatever ails ya! and it's usually $150 bucks an hour.
I think most states with lottery tickets have an 800# on the back and set aside $ for the addictions
and related side effects surrounding it all.
Heck, casinos are the ONLY places where smoking is still allowed so it's definitely connected.

They'll address issues from marriage and family counseling to any and all addictions so it's a great resource.

ALL addictions increase dopamine and seratonin, be it skydiving, ANY chemical, alcohol, nicotine whatEVER
all it really does is promote the natural feel good chemicals.
Now this is new research info. I'm tending to believe..
Seems also to be the theory why SSRI's were so popular with stressed and depressed folks.
They would keep seratonin levels high so we'd feel good.
Too bad the side effects of ssri's can be intensely more hideous than any other life condition imaginable.

Associate with pain - a simple rubber band on the wrist and SNAP it when you feel like..a smoke or drink or
dropping a nickle in the slots..whatEver.

3 bucks a day? what do smokes cost anyway? 6$?
times 30days = Trike parts!
New plastics! can be paid for in a month.

I was chewing last summer logging tractor time during the fire season
but that's hideous without even wanting to quit.

My fav was the little cylinders, had cotton soaked with nicotine and you could breathe thru them on airplanes
and other places to not smoke.
Haven't seen them in a while.

ok, this really IS stupid. Like counting calories when trying to lose weight...yeah..let's all focus on Food!

I'm gonna look for a rubber band.

It is damn tough.I started chewing when around 12.Did that until 16 started smoking, roughly two packs a day.Really loved those Camels, probbally would have walked a mile.Did that until around 22,cold turkey. Then started chewing again until 32.Quit tthat and drinking at the same time. Not because I really wanted to either.Anyway was good until a year ago. Then had one Backwoods Honey Berry cigar and now it is 1-3 of those a day.Still no booze though. It is a really tough habit to quit.

Been smoke free for a bout a year now. Best advice I can give is never try and cut down. Cold Turkey is the only way to go. Get up in the morning, and just refuse to pick them up. If you are an trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro, just go with it. Every day will get better. If your wife or whatever smokes, it will be 10 times harder to quite if they still smoke.....Don't hang out with smokers.....same thing. Good Luck!

I smoked a little over 10 years and quit in June of this year. I did cheat a little bit, and went to an electric ciggarette. I dont have the weak ones either. I bought a Reo-mod mini with Organic all natural Vape-juice. It make the transition a piece of cake really and i can basically go days without vaping no problem if i want to. My breathing is 10x's better and its wayyy cheaper than smokes. plus the bad smell is gone. If you need a little help a vape-box is a good transition. beats going back to the pack.

I have gradually, and I mean gradually cut back since I quit bartending 3.5 years ago. I was a 8-10 packs a week then, weaned myself down to 1-2 packs a week recently, and the last month and a half I have bought 4 packs total. I have smoked 1 cigarette in the last 17 days. I do pop a Skoal Bandit in from time to time, but I hate the taste of that stuff so much, that it only stays in for about 10 mins. I have been eating Jolly Ranchers left and right, and that seems to help when I get a craving.

Good Luck!

JOHN, get you ass on the wagon!!

Wow its funny you posted this as I just quit a month and and four days ago! 2 packs a day for 25 years, I just woke up that one morning lit one and asked myself WHY, twisted the pack of cigarettes and in the trash they went! As Mosh stated beer makes it hard and the other part is just the habit part like reaching for the smokes
.hang in there its tough but we can get through it... and yes the parts are coming in every day almost. Lol

I was hoping to do some well needed wrenching but that is almost impossible with the kids constantly wanting to do what daddy does. What Id give for a heavy punching bag right now!!!! Or even my trike to run would be a great stress relief but that is a whole other story, I bought a bottom end off of a guy on ebay and turns out that he has been posting this and doesnt even have it. Now gotta try and fix my busted left case because everything sucks!!!! Sorry!

After a meal is the worst for me. I find that as soon as I am finished eating...I do the dishes. Staying busy helps a lot.
I was eating Werther's candies as a substitute. Not real good for the teeth, so I stopped eating those.
The "good" thing about wanting one after I eat is I am not replacing smoking with food. They say a lot of people do that, and gain weight when quitting. For me, if I eat I will want to top it off with a cig, so that keeps me from the extra snacking. If I do snack, it is fruit. Something about fruit doesn't trigger me to want one.

I am also a coffee addict. So when I think I want a smoke, I will have a cup of coffee and that also seems to help...for me anyway.
Like Dcreel said...take a deep breath..I have been doing a lot of that. Deep breath...it'll pass in a few.

EDIT: I also want to add that I feel SO much better in the mornings. I haven't noticed a head ache in awhile now either.

Thanks Mrs. Mosh! I was just in the garage getting greasy and that kinda helps, till I get pissed, ha ha. I think the first few days will be rough then Ill be ok. I just picked that habit up a few months ago- helped me quit the monster drink addiction! Ha ha.

That will be hard, you quitting and her not. Fortunately Tammy has been really supportive in my case and does not smoke around me. She (your wife) is going to have to smoke outside. She wont like it, but tell her to do it for you and the kids..
I will tell you, the 3 first days without having one for me, a few peeps came into the shop and the smelled like smoke/ass..Bad..and it stinks. I cant believe that is how I smelled to others. After just 3-4 days, your breathing gets probably 40% better..did for me anyway..
I would like to consider this thread a "help group" from here on out. Lets try to back each other up here and help one another.
I have not found myself getting disturbed over them and not having one..I guess if you get real cranked up, you can always lock yourself in the bedroom and "push the bush"..
Instead of a punching bag...

Seriously..Read that link I posted on page 1 whenever youy get the urge to have one..It helps!

Definitely a great idea...

This is the 3rd time I have quit. The first time was alone and did it cold turkey with the help of weightlifting. It lasted about 3 years and a divorce got me smoking again.. 2nd time, I used SmokeAway. You can buy it at WalMart and it worked great. Lasted 2.5 years and a custody battle and I was smoking again.. Third time was with my current wife and we both quit cold turkey. She tried Chantrix but had awful suicidal dreams and quit taking it.. Lasted about 4 months before she started again behind my back, when I found out I was smoking again with her.. The last time Jan 2011 I had a major surgery and we both quit cold turkey and this time we are in a good enough place it stuck. It'll be a year in January, and life is 1000% better..

Mosh is right, with the temptation in front of you it will be sooo much harder to quit. It would be awesome if you could get her to quit with you.. For any reason out of 100 reasons.. Bottom line is I felt extremely foolish for paying money to shorten my life, and lessen my ability to enjoy my life with my family.. Remember why you want to quit, and remind yourself when you are feeling like slipping..

Yupp, dad quit at age 75.
At the huntin' cabin with a bunch of friends, they all went outside to smoke at 12 below zero,
and they realized, all of a sudden, after however many years that it was StOOpid!
and they all threw what was left in the woodstove.
Middle of nowhere and no way to get more.
It worked for every last one of them.

I started smoking Reds when I was like 13. About a pack a week. Within 2 years it was a pack a day. I quit over 5 years ago cold turkey. Just told myself no more. I smoked for close to 20 years. Tried a few times to quit, but this last time has been the longest. What I did this time was instead of staying away from cigerette smoke at work or out at a bar was I just hung and delt with it. Seemed to work for me. Plus instead of telling myself to wait 10 seconds when I wanted one. I told myself to wait till tomorrow. It helps alot. I stopped watching the clock waiting for 10 seconds to go by.

Nice to hear some good honest talk. We all have our demons and they are hard to beat. 1 day smoke free is great! Its kinda like your first true love breaking up with you. You couldn't breathe, eat, sleep without thinking about her every second. As time went on those seconds turned to minutes And minutes to hours. After awhile you might go a few days without thinking about her.
Fast forward a few years and look at you now :)

I'm not a smoker, but chocolate ice cream and soda are my two bugaboo's.

Good luck 84t3 you can do it. My grandfather smoked since he was 12 years old and at age 63 the doctor told him quit or he'll be dead in a year. He quit cold turkey and managed to live another ten. He was up to close to 5 packs a day and that's not an exaggeration either. If he can do it anyone can.

WOW !! think i might finally have to give this quitting a try !! not for the free stuff but for my son who turns 9 saturday and wants
to see his dad ice race this year . see i'm a four time national ice racing champ for district 14 here in michigan , he's never seen me race
cause i quit right befor he was born !! wanting to run the 450 studded class but might have to do the rubber class though cause ama
changed there rules last year and now you have to have full fenders front and back like the bikes and they look like poo .. wanted to see how the 25 year
old 350x big bore stroker could hang .. wish me luck for both !! starting tomorrow morning . or 12:00 a.m. i guess !!

Man, I about lost it! Was craving one pretty bad and decided to get my brothers old tack shoes out and go for a run! Wow, its been a while. Probably didnt even run a mile and was ready to die! I used to run a mile before I even stretched out to get warmed up when I was in high school (11 yrs ago). I used to be pretty good at track and finished 13th in the state for long jump when I was a junior and then 9th when I was a senior and 17th in the tripple jump in the state. Used to love to run and today felt good until I couldnt breath and taste blood- probably coming from my lungs. Im gonna keep it up and try to run when I can to help my lungs clean up good and fast! Good job badass!!! We can do this man!

I quit 22yrs ago. smokes were $1.35 a pak. I had http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluracy. It hurt to breathe, like someone is stabbing you with an icepik.
The best thing to do is stay away from people that smoke and stay away from gas stations that sell them. I chewed a piece of gum when ever i had those cravings. The cravings stopped after about 2-3 weeks.Good luck!.... Fight the good fight!

I will try to get a pic up from my iPhone. I'm not very good with that kind of thing. I just had to run to the store to pick up a few things and it was hard to not get cigarettes but I made it, I got lots of gum. My jaws hurt already. Lol. I really hope I can do this, me and my gal both smoke, she quit while pregnant, but we are trying to support each other.

I've been off the computer for a few days and I just popped back in here. I was really surprised to see my name mentioned so much!

I've been smoking for 15 years, most of which I was a light smoker. Almost three years ago I had a very big change of lifestyle. Amongst the many things that changed in my life at that time, my smoking habit was the worst. I went from an under half pack a day smoker to a pack a day. I used to be able to quit at will and I would do it for weeks or months at a time just for sh!ts and giggles. The last time I tried it wasn't happening. Now I can't smell or taste anything, I hock up loogeys all the time (especially in the morning), I wheez, etc, etc...

The time has come and I know it. Not to mention the dough I'm blowing.

They are over $6 a pack where Im at!

Try $9 a back here. God bless the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

I've been debating those electric smokes for quite some time now. Maybe it's time to take a better look. If anybody has any wisdom to share about those things. What with this Reo thing ATCeeya?

Fabio tried the electronic cigarette, the part of that was I kept the habit of grabbing for what wasn't satisfying me! So I went right back to smoking, It is hard no matter how you look at it. I found the cold turkey way seemed too be the easiest way for me, but the habit as hung around for almost a month ,,,, as of now it seems too be gone and keeping busy is a good way too keep the mind from thinking about it. All I can say is I feel like a new man in the mornings.

Out of my closest friends, I'm the only one who doesn't smoke. I'm a 12 pack a day caffeine addict though, it's horrible for me, and is one of the hardest things to quit, but at least it only hurt me. It's hard to resist smoking sometimes though, the knowledge that any time you asked, there's at least one person who'd bum you one.

It's sad though to see my best friends, both under 18, not able to simply go for an hour long ride without having to stop and smoke.

My grandfather quit smoking, cold turkey, the day he had to pay $1 for a pack. My great-uncle quit cold turkey after he got deathly sick after smoking local stuff in Vietnam.

Caffeine will get ya too. I was hooked on the big monster drinks for almost 2 years. They cost $3 ea. and was drinking 2-3 a day! If I didnt get one I would have a horrible headache. Well, I switched from those to coffee and now that Im not smoking, coffee doesnt taste too good anymore either! Its first thing in the morning now and is the hardest part of the day for me but all is well so far, hows everyone else holding up?

Fabio, this is the e-cig I use. https://www.zeecigs.com/default.ht I started doing some research on e-cigs in Jan. I started smoking when I was 15, I'm 48 now. It was time to quit. A guy at work came in with one of these so I went with this brand. I use this brand of " juice " . http://www.johnsoncreeksmokejuice.com/product/J001/juice . you can get diff flavors and strengths. Made in the USA. I smoked, smoke 2 packs a day and this helped for me. I used this for 2 weeks and didn't have one cig. Breathing was alot better along with taste. The setback came when my mother had a stroke. I was on my way to the hospital and my e-cig ran out. Didn't have extras with me so I stopped for a pack. Stress, makes or breaks ya. It broke me . Fast forward to now. Mom is doing great, not 100% but close to it. Me, still smoking, But, I did order somemore " juice " the other day. Time to give it another try. to all you guys " chillax'n " , good for you. I don't know when I'm gonna do it but it's in my head pretty strong so it's gonna be soon. Keep the faith.

Last night was my test! Went to the wifes familys x-mas party and everyone was drinking and smoking and having a good time while I sweated it out! Im a recovering alcoholic so this is very hard for me in the first place then nicotine to top it off. The gum just wasnt doing it anymore as I would imagine what I looked like with 3 pieces of gum in and chewing it like a cow on speed. My jaw is soar as hell! My wifes uncle says here put a chew in! I have chewed since I was 12 and this is actually harder for me to give up than the cigarettes. I held off but wanted something so bad then my brother in laws shows up to my rescue. He had fake snuff- nicotine free- all herbal! I still get the craving but it was just a quick comfort and helped me fight the demons. Another BIG milestone cleared- public peer pressure! Where is the rest of my nicotine free friends at with some words of encouragement????

I remember when I quit....8 yrs ago. I chewed copenhagen for 20 plus years...skoal, redman....you name it. I started smoking to try and quit snuff?? Real smart...then found myself doing both...lol I ran out of snuff one day and made my mind up and never looked back. It was easier for me than the cig battle. Took me 4-5 times to do it. I was a hermit at home for 2 months......never even went out to the garage or had beers. I knew it would up the odds of smoking again. Man after I quit......I noticed the beer intake increased to make up for the idle cig. time I usually had. It all eventually worked out. It was not easy.....I still like the cig smoke smell but never really feel the need anymore?? If you want to quit you can.......it may just not be that time deep down somewhere in your mind ya know?? Good luck fellas......rough battle. I took the cold turkey route on both and made it......not to say I was not an assh%$# along the way.lol I guess the habit is more than just the cig. I tried to break the whole ritual I guess....comin home, crackin a beer and fireing up a cig and workin in the shop. You gotta break some other habits as well along the way to help. Beer was one of them for me. Beer tastes way better now.

Well, I caved!!!!! I am so sorry guys

You have nothing to be sorry for. This is not easy, if it was everyone would be doing it. Its not like GEICO Insurance that even a cave man can do it. The important thing is that you stop again.

Keep this in mind, you disappoint only yourself....and again you have nothing to apologize to us for. Those of us who care.......who by the way have never met you.....support your cause unconditionally!!!......I for one am not disappointed quite the opposite....your making me think of ways to further motivate your ability to quit...

Remember the only reason you are quitting is for YOURSELF. Not your wife, not your kid/kids, mom, dad, g-ma, g-pa......3WW or even some supreme being!!!!

You quit for YOU and YOU alone. The sooner you realize this the quicker you will find the will, courage, strength and perseverance to quit.

It is nice to have the support group of folks on here but exterior motivation will not carry you to quit for forever!!!!

You may also want to consider Dr. Joe's advice. Put a nice thick rubber band on your wrist. When you get the craving snap that sucker, soon your body will associate that desire with that pain!!

Get back to it QUITTER!!!

A long time coworker of the wife and I, just passed from lung cancer.. He went home sick on a monday and never returned. He passed a month later.. The thing I have against smoking and anyone with intelligence should agree.. The cigarette companies are selling russian roulette.. It may not get you today, it may not get you a month from now, but smoking will take you away from your family before you want to leave. Nobody wants cancer.. so why pay to give it a foothold..

I'm still amazed that it's legal to sell cigarettes...

Hey Dave, good for you. Been meaning to get in here and join the club, havent had time to read through the whole thing. I myself have taken a big turn in recent months. I decided to go for the non drinking non smoking life style that Ive always dreamed of, but never had the nerve to go for. I have been a smoker on and off for 14 years now, and have been an alcoholic for around 10. Its now been a month since ive had a drink, or a smoke. I quit both at once as well, so I know what you have been going through. Im finding that its a LOT harder to deal with everyday issues without the aid of a cigarette, or a beer to numb the pain. Thats the hardest hurdle I have run into, not being able to drown myself in a bottle of liqour because Im really upset at something. Another big milestone for me, is Ive lost a lot of weight as well. At my heaviest around 1.5 years ago I was 250. Right nw Im down to 168. I havent been under 200 lbs in over 8 years, big things in my life.

But enough about me, good luck to you in mantaining it! Ive got a great girl to be my crutch, a good support system is what I need if I want to get through this! Good luck, dont give in!

Thats awesome Eric!! I myself had a rougher time with getting rid of the booze and it still gives me a good urge every so often. Everywhere you go there are bars and people drink constantly at every kind of function I can think of. I find myself excited to go to kids birthday partys for a few reasons now. 1) Not a party focused on getting hammered. 2) Im a big kid myself. 3) CAKE!!!!!:D Ive been sober for close to 2 yrs now and its still is in my mind almost every day. I really want to go to TF but Im not sure if I would make it through it without turning into someone that noone likes, if you know what I mean. Still debating it though! Keep up the good work and I am here if you need anything.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the words of encouragement. I just started to look at alcohol in a different light. Alcohol is a drug, thats it. Just a socially acceptable way to numb your brain. I also came to the conclusion that I wont be able to reach my potential in life as a boozer. I look at myself, and can relate a lot of big failures to alcohol. I mean come on, took me 7 years to graduate college, and Im NOT a doctor lmao. I just had to realize that Im not good at moderating myself. Time to grow up, and get somewhere in life! And the smoking is obvious, tired of feeling like crap all the time because I smoke 2 packs a day, and I dont want to die to early if I can do something about it now! But yeah, if you have ever been to a big ride, and witnissed how I drank, that wasnt a vacation occurance for me, thats how I used to drink EVERYDAY. Bottle of vodka in one hand, bud lite in the other!

Dave, thats pretty dam funny. You should come to trike fest with me. I will not be giving in under any circumstance. So you can hang with ol girl and me, and not worry about it. Yeah Im still going to be hanging out, but I wouldnt epect to see me at the shoe tree at 4 am.

Doug I remember meeting Mr. Corey Sprock and finding out he didnt drink. There was a point where non drinkers scared me lol. Took me a while to understand it.

Its just Im at the point of wanting to do something with my life. I have a college degree, Im almost 30 with no family, no kids, no money, I make 8 dollars an hour, I am done with this sht!!!!!! Time to man up and get somewhere.

And Bill, Ill send you my address, should I be this scard? lol

Hey all ya gotta do is smoke the natural tobacco you buy in the smoke shop. I smoked Midnight Special but you can smoke whatever you like as long as its not that pre packaged stuff. CVS sells this tobacco called bugler. You can get 200 cigarettes for 18 bucks.
In NYC cigs are selling for over 12 bucks a pack !! LoL. Get this machine called Turbo matic.
It makes the cigarettes with the filter and the paper tubes. You can get 100 filtered tubes for like 3 dollars. Smoke the natural tobacco for 3 months and you don't have to stop smoking. You will be quitting as you smoke. The pre packed cigs contain over 500 chemicals and they spike the nicotine. That's why you jones 5 minutes after you smoke.
I smoked for 30 years over a pack a day and I stopped this way. I didn't want to stop but I had to when I found out my mom had lung cancer. It takes about 3 months to get the drugs out of your blood stream. Just keep smoking the natural cigs. Remember you dont have to stop but one day after 3 months you will wake up and not need to smoke. Its the first one in the morning with the coffee that snags ya all the time LoL. Good luck. Its easy to do. If I can do it you can too. BTW here are some of the chemZ they put in pre packaged cigs. Flouride (the active ingredient in rat poison and prozac) Arsenic. Salt Peter.
Ammonia. Oh yeah the fertilizer they use to grow the pre packaged cigs..... it has radioactive waste in it. They put it in there to get rid of the industrial waste thats what gives you the cancer. Its the fertilizer that kills ya plus the chemZ.

Tore down the 1st,85 SX, knew by the black silicone,She wasn't a virgin. Someone else had been in her.It stunk going in,never a good sign, rockers and cam showed VERY slight wear and heat. Still wasn't giving up,piston and rings seized on the exhaust side. { My son had picked this and 2 engines up Years ago w NO info on these engines. the farmer wanted me to just throw it in there. I said,No,I will rebuild it,,then throw it in there.}. Anyhow, popped the piston off,,,the rods bad : (. Could not believe it. NEXT !. Good crank, clutches torn off,,and I suspect bad tranny. Anyhow,I've gotta figure out what engine configuration I'm going with, etc,,and what all other parts I can afford, lol. Keep up the good fight you quitters !!!!!!!

The saddest part is she missed saying good bye to him by 1/2 hour........All I can say is EFF Cancer and EFF the tobacco companies...all of you selfish MOFO's who smoke "fags" think of the pain and suffering you will cause your loved ones you when you pass and leave them behind. You should not require anymore motivation than that.

For those of you who quit. KEEP IT UP QUITTERS.

Jill Ward. She gave him,and our best PT around the DVD's. They did it with their spouses. It turned him into an animal. He quit thru the winter last year,,and again,,this guy trys really hard to stay fit! By spring he started it back up,,he said it was like he NEVER did the program,,he had LOST Everything he had gained. He's about 50-53,I'd say. He's not doing it now. He calls himself a fair weather runner now. Warm weather only, take the winters off. Good luck!! You need a couple hours a day to dedicate! You'll come out a wild ape though!!! Good luck man!

I'm doing good. I made it from after work Monday last week (the day I started) until Friday. I did smoke for the weekend, but not that much. I kind of anticipated doing that so it wasn't a surprise. Only had 2 or 3 Sunday, then Monday morning I went back to my fake cigarette. I think this will work out good in the long run. I am thoroughly enjoying being able to smell things and breath. Also, I don't wheeze like I was, especially when laying down to bed. And no more loogies in the a.m.

Thanks for asking Bill.

Are you down to Saturday or Sunday yet fabio? I bet you can do one day out of the weekend instead of two? Found out tonight an Aunt on My Wifes side who has smoked like a chimney forever ,just had a real scare. She's been sick as hell for months. 7 different antibiotic. Finally found the lining of her lungs severely swollen. Not lung cancer yet. But she is trying to quit now. Her hubby has been down for 2 months waiting on back surgery. We never know what tomorrow will bring. Hope everyone else is hanging tough!!!

May be easier to do a one day thing on the weekend but that may also burn in your mind now that you have been just puffing on the weekends. Go for the gold Fabio. You can do it... Rip its effing head off!! Ha ha.

All I can really say is that I'm smoking drastically less. I'm happy with that for the moment. It's better than smoking a pack a day like I was. At this point I go 3-5 days without smoke usually, but even on days where I do smoke I don't smoke all that much.

I was a smoker. Let me put it into better perspective. I want you to think real hard of all the things you have to go through to smoke:

1: earn money (in this econmoy)
2: buy cigarettes (expensive)
3: buy flame
4: find a place to smoke (not so easy these days
5: dispose of said cigarette
6: deal with feeling guilty about smoking because you know it's bad for you
7: repeat
8: die a slow agonizing death from lung cancer

That is a lot of effort just to destroy yourself. What you need to do is find the switch in your brain, and direct the energy you would have expelled into smoking, and just deal with not smoking and take a breath of fresh air instead. Soon enough, smoking will seem gross to you, and you will never understand how you did it in the first place. Your brain is stronger than you think. Who is in control, you or your stupid society brought on urges?

Also examine why you started smoking in the first place, and address it.

OR you could just keep smoking and die, all the while making some dumb ass cigarette company exec rich off your dime, not to mention paying taxes to the government that will only go to people who leech off said government.

Like I said, instead of smoking, don't.

I had a little slip on Friday. Got into a huge family fight with the inlaws and I flipped out. Its been an on going battle for a few months now. I took a drive and ended up at the store for a drink and when they asked is that all... I got a pack of camels. I am not sure why I figured a smoke would fix anything or just calm my nerves so I didnt go back and kick someones arse. The guilt of that first one killed me and tasted horrible but the guilt kinda over ruled the anger at the time. I was doing really good and not having cravings then all the sudden it got uncontrollable so I tell myself that I only went to the store for a drink... but I know I really went for a pack of smokes to have a crutch for some stupid reason. I hope the rest of you are doing ok.

I smoked 22 years, got up to 75+ cigarettes per day plus the odd cigar. I didn’t need a lighter much as I would always use the current smoke to spark up the next one. I tried to quit a bunch of times when I was younger and made it 11 months once. My failure (and the stupid thing that got me started again) was so demoralizing I didn’t even try to quit again for another 15 years. As I neared 40 I had a long mental talk with myself and quit cold turkey over 6 years ago. The first three days are always the worst. I still puff cigars, but I don’t inhale them and can go for months without. It is sooooooo worth it to quit, but it can take a couple years to truly appreciate the results and at least three years before cravings turn to disgust at the notion of sparking one up. Not that anyone asked, but here are a few tips that worked for me:

1. Have a plan and a goal before you quit. Don’t just decide to quit because you have a bad cold and skipped a few smokes, or because you saw a photo of a black lung on the Internet. For me the key was deciding I wanted to play ice hockey again. I knew I’d need to shake pounds and quit smoking to do it, so that was my motivation for both. (the first time I tried to quit I gained 20 pounds) I tied my quitting to a positive goal, something that would make it next to impossible to smoke while I was participating in it and something that would be enhanced by a lack of smoking. Pick something you truly want to do that you can’t do as a smoker and commit to it 100%. I was practicing twice a week and playing three games a week to stay focused. Hard to contemplate a smoke when your lungs are on fire.
2. Don’t try to quit when you are depressed, stressed or sick, it doesn’t work and makes your other symptoms even worse lessening your will to try quitting again in the future. You want to quit when you are at the highest physical and mental state possible.
3. Don’t tell anyone you are quitting. This is between you and the smokes, no one else. Telling someone you are ”going to quit” makes you look and feel like a loser if it doesn’t work out and this too makes you less inclined to try again later.
4. Think about what triggers your current need to smoke and try to avoid it. For me it was coffee and booze. I NEEDED a smoke to go with either, so I skipped the coffee for the first few days and avoided the booze for a couple weeks, BUT as soon as you feel you can have a coffee or a drink without needing a smoke, DO IT! Having conquered the urge to smoke you will feel like Superman when you have a beer without a smoke and this will help a lot over the next months. Just make sure you have something else handy that you like to replace it with at the start i.e. have some O.J. on hand in the fridge to replace that coffee, don’t wait till you are fighting the urge of thirst and a smoke at the same time. Have a Coke with a twist of lime instead of a rum and Coke at night.
5. Watch what you eat. Anything goes the first few days, eat raw sugar if that’s what it takes to keep from lighting up, but ASAP start eating healthy things that won’t pack on the pounds. Celery, carrots, apples, etc.
6. Keep and unlit smoke in your hand and mouth for as long as you feel like it (for me it was over a month and a few times after that). The addiction has as much to do with the feeling of it in your hand and mouth as it does with the chemicals in your blood. An added bonus is that everyone that you know who smokes will ask if you want a light to which you can politely say no to (and silently think F/U, you chain smoking looser if you wish:naughty:). It is an extremely empowering feeling to do this and it allows you to combat the loss of the drugs in your system separately from the physical withdrawal of having nothing in your hand or mouth. Keep a pack of smokes in your pocket too, the unlit ones get a little gross after a few hours. Believe me, it is far more empowering to have those unlit smokes in your pocket and knowing that YOU choose not to have one than it is to pretend that throwing out all the ashtrays and getting rid of your “last” pack will keep you from giving in. Hiding dangerous things is for protecting kids. YOU are an adult, YOU decided to quit smoking, YOU are ultimately in charge of quitting. PERIOD. Tough up, man up, suck it in and make a commitment to YOURSELF.
7. Don’t make excuses, or blame others for YOUR addiction. Its all on YOU! YOU started of YOUR own free will and YOU are the ONLY one that can stop. If you are one of weak whinny guys those who thinks a billboard with an image of the Marlboro Man is what makes you need to smoke, you may also want to explore other aspects of your sexuality lest you be missing something else you subconsciously crave:rolleyes:. I quit with my wife and friends blowing smoke in my face constantly. Rather than crying about it, or giving in, I used their weakness it to remind myself that I was in charge and that my ability to endure their smoking made me one tough SOB that could do anything I wanted to.
8. And finally try to focus on all the changes that are for the better whenever possible i.e. the taste of food, the smell of perfume and leather, less crud in your eyes in the morning, more cash in your wallet etc.
My stages were:
- The first three days (the hardest part), once past this it seemed easy, at least for a couple weeks.
- A few weeks later I found myself letting my guard down and craving a smoke. I had to remind myself constantly of what I had invested to get through the first three days and ask myself repeatedly if I was willing to let it go to waste
- For the next year I still loved the smell of cigarettes, again, remembering what it took to get me to this point was what worked.
- Two year as a non-smoker I found the smell of cigarettes a little gross, cravings were gone.
- Three years and on I can smell a smoker in a crowd of people and it disgusts me. I can tell the difference between someone who just had a cigarette and those who have so much tar in their lungs that they permeate like a wet ashtray. I can tell if a car has EVER been smoked in as soon as I open the door. Just like when I was a kid, my senses and intelligence are recovered as well as my health.

I’ve never written this down before, so I hope sharing it helps someone quit someday.

I also can smell a smoker a mile away. Iv caught people smokeing pot near my house and I was inside. with the windows shut. Good luck to you guys and girls that are trying to quit .Iv talked to people that tried to quit and some say "I Quit " then when someone ask them about it . The person says well i saw you 3 days ago smoking and they get shamed back into smoking . What I tell people that are quitting .It starts with 1 day .Then 3 days .Next you will notice a weeks gone by. then a month. then 3 months. Then six. And so on. Next thing you notice its been 1 1/2 years.
