Hello, i'm Adam from the metroDetroit area, i just picked up a 1985 honda 200m ATC which i intend on using for ice fishing. i think for $450 i got a fair deal, there is an issue with the bolt used to tighten the chain... it's broke (as u can see in the pic) any suggestions on how i should fix this issue?

other than that, it starts right up and the gas tank is void of any rust, it has two new tires on the rear and seemed like a good deal. I just want this machine running the best i can get it before i take it out on the ice this season, any suggestion would be very helpful and i thank you in advance.

What's up Adam, Enjoy the forum, for the next 2 months you'll be a half member and not get to comment on all the threads you like but it's still full of nice info. If that broken tightener is the only thing wrong with it then you got a great deal.

Hondas have the most availability for oem parts and aftermarket still out there. Check ebay for a replacements. I'm new here too but I own a 85 Kawasaki KLT110. Those parts are less common. I had to make my own brake lever bolts and screws

Thanks for the great info, i ordered that chain adjuster on eBay and it's on it's way! It's good to see so many parts on eBay for an 85' machine.

Well i adjusted and lubed the chain, changed the oil and cleaned the filter/screen, i adjusted the cam chain tension, new spark plug new Dr8es-L NGK, replaced the chain adjuster, and put air in the tires; this bike runs strong.

A few questions, the bike had a DR7ES-L plug in it and not the recommended DR8ES plug in the manual: was this done likely because of the plug on hand or is there a better reason why you would switch top a hotter plug?

The headlight bulb was burned out, i am looking to get a new one but the local o'riley store doesn't sell this bulb, the bulb that was in the light was an A70285 12v 45-45w, is there a good place to find this bulb?

Also as u can see in one of the pics i am missing a screw for the plastic, does anyone have any good ideas where to also get a few of those?

thanks in advance,

as far as the spark plug, nearly every used machine i ever purchased has had the wrong plug. if it runs ok, prolly no big deal, but i would replace it with the correct one. i think it's ussually a matter of what a guy can find on hand.
the bulbs are generally different from automotive, if you've got a powersports dealer nearby they should have it. otherwise dennis kirk, rockymountain atv, bikebandit, ebay, etc.

from what I understand the 8 is a hotter plug, and in the winter you will find you have a lean running issue so you might want to stay with the 7 through the winter vs. adjusting a carb, also that is a beautiful machine let me look through my parts I think I have a few of those screws i can send you.

Looks like a nice score for the price. Seems to be in good shape. Every used bike that I've ever bought had the wrong plug in it. I do know that the Chinese knock-off ATVs call for the 7 plug as opposed to the 8. Two of the guys that I bought my trikes from had Chinese ATVs also. I just figured that they stuck in whatever they had on hand...

That would be grand!

I am also looking to buy a right hand rear brake lever&perch, it seems someone knuckle busted it off and made a small dent in the tank in the same impact, should I get an after market one or should i bother finding a used one?
