Most spanish speaking people either say "Teh Cot Ay" or "Teh Cot Ee". I generally say "Teh Cot Ay"......how to spell it in spanish(this might help some(just how the spanish letters are pronounced)) Tay(T) Ay(E) Say(C) Ah(A) Tay(T) Ay(E).

This brings up a question from me, why in the name of Bob would a Japanese ATV company name an ATV after a spanish word???????????????

Tecate,tehcotti,tehkatie,I've heard them all.
I was told the tecate got its name from the tecate desert. Back in the 80's and even today,Manufactures were building bikes, trikes to sell to America,so why not just name the machines after something in america. ex, mojave, bayou, prairie, rubicon, rincon, rancher, kodiak ,grizzly, bigbear, wolverine, badger.None of these places/animals are in Japan. Honda,Kawi,Suzuki, and Yamaha all have factories in california,,,,since the mid to late 80's.

I agree with Jim that the name the trike was given came from the desert. Back in the day, atv desert racing was a big deal, and i always figured that the tecate 250, or 400, or whatever race it was spawned the name.

I read a Tecate ad somewhere that explained the name came from a small town on the Baja Peninsula. It also showed how to pronounce the name. The ad was introducing the new Kawasaki Bike. I have been looking for the ad that I saw it in. It was somewhere on this computer.

Here's the ad Mike

It reads that its named after a tough little border town in Baja I believe.

How ever the mexicans pronounce it, would be the correct way I guess.

I've always said Teh- Cott- EEE. The first time I ever read about one in the 80's I was calling it a Tee-Cate and my old man was quick to correct me on it!
