I have searched and havent found a similar problem. I have service manual for my atc and checked ignition with ohm meter and all with in specs. I have a brand new cdi unit. First pull i get maybe 1 or 2 sparks from plug. I can pull it over another 6 or 7 times and get nothing. If i keep pulling it will start sparking again like it should, sparking several times on each pull. Anybody have this kind of problem before. I am thinking there is something wrong with an induction coil somewhere maybe pulse coil. Any suggestion would be appreciated. I dont want to spend too much on this atc shes in pretty bad shape if i cant get her going cheap she will go back into the storage shed and forgotten about. Thanks

try disconnecting the kill switch it may be shorting also unbolt your igniton coil clean of its ground and put it back on snip a little bit off of each end of the plug wires and see what hapens it sounds to me like its grounding out or not grounded enough gl.

I will give that try. The kill switch was taken out of the housing on handle bar. This machine has sat outside unused for 2+ years. I got it, started her up ran for about 15 seconds and quit. Then it went into my barn where it has sat for the last 2-3 years. I have checked all the wires from the key switch for continuity and they are all good.
I love 3 wheelers. If I can get this one going my next project is going to be a 1982 200 S that I had since new, if i can get my old man to hand it over. I think then it was around $1800
Thanks

Pull the CDI cover off ( on head at the end of the cam ) and check the advancer to see if it spins by hand. I have seen the advancers go bad and cause sporatic spark like your having.

I have checked the pulse generator. It seems to be working properly. Doesnt spin by hand. Checked gap and ohmed at 27. I have read there should be a 0.5v pluse from the pulse generator on the blue/yellow wire but I am not getting that. I have checked the generator and it ohms at around 250 and puts out about 30 volts. I have started going through wire diagram checking all the wires.

UPDATE.
I pulled the old dead/busted battery out and put in the one from my kids Chinese quad. My neutral light comes on and I have spark. The neutral light wouldnt even blink before when i was pulling it over. I have tested the regulator/rectifier with my standard multimeter and i get no reading going by the test procedure in the manual. Do i need the special meters they mentino in the manual or should i get some kind of reading.
