Im new to the forum and Ive just got a sudden interest in getting a three wheeler. Ive rode plenty of quads and dirtbikes so this will be fun to hop on and get onto a new atc.

My interest has peaked enough where I will be getting a trike within a week or two. It actually wouldnt even bother me if i went and bought 2 I got about $1000 to spend.

I have either been looking at getting a

Yamaha 225dx
Honda 200s
Honda big red

Id like something that goes somewhat fast but I cant find any inexpensive Honda ATC 250 or 350 or even a TRI-Z 250

Out of those 3 I posted which would you guys recomend. They all will need work but I can do anything with these so no biggie there. All of them seem to have a solid motor and trans just need some work.

I would get the big red 250. It is a great all around trike, it can go PLENTY fast...55+. You can haul stuff with it because it has the racks, and it is dead reliable. It is also good if you are a bigger guy because it has a lot of space. It also looks tough. Trust me...its worth the extra money. Just my opinion.

Hello and welcome to 3WW.

Is the Big Red 200cc or 250? Going by what you say you are looking for I would suggest the 225dx if the Big Red is a 200cc. But if the BR is the later 250cc model I would say that would be the better machine for what you want.

Overall, I would buy the machine that needs the least amount of work and go from there. If after you get it tip-top you find out you are still wanting something better/faster you can always sell it off and upgrade.

The big red is the 250 model and yes the most money of them all I kind of like to rip around the corners and maybe some jumps here and there. The big red seems like it wouldnt take to jumps or cornering all that well. But yeah Ive heard the big reds are reliable.

I wont be hauling anything just trail riding and messing around mostly.

Well, if you want to get into some jumping and tearing around, IMHO none of the 3 you have listed are really geared toward that.

I recommend a 200x for that purpose.....Preferably an '86-'87 model... But a first gen ('83-'85) would get it done for you too...

Yeah I actually havent really seen any 200x's around. I guess people who have those might be holding on too them

I would take the big red. Out of the 3 the 225 is the most sporty I guess. Wont be doing much jumps but good for some cat walks!!

If those three are your options, definitely the 225. It's the most sporty of the three you listed. Like the other guys said, none of them really sound like they'll suit you 100%. You sound like a 200X/350X candidate to me.

I would pick the 225dx, I already own 1 plus a custom 200 in a dr frame, when I finish I will be posting the build as it has taken me a long time to finish it, but don't worry much about jumping a 225. I have ran mine flat out in fourth off a ten foot drop and no issues there. they have lots of power and pretty good speed for what they are. also motor wise I find the yamaha's a little more simpler to repair. the 200's will power slide corners nice and easy being a hard tail, and has front suspension but won't offer you much comfort if you hit a trail with alot of jumps on it. I wouldn't rule the big red out either as you can always change the tires out for a more sportier look, and better handling, especially if it has rear suspension as well.

Well guys I went and bought the Honda 200s.

The 200s kind of won out because It was only a 15 mintue drive to pick it up.

I wont be doing any jumps on it but its definatly fun to kick around on in the woods. Ill wait to do some more aggressive riding till I feel the need to get a 250x or 350x or TRI-Z. Which most likely wont be long. But its a good starter trike to get a feel for them.

It needs some adjusting as far as the carb goes and could definately use some tlc. But on the bright side it has basically brand new rear tires and the seat is in good condition and has just been recovered. Not to mention the rear plastic is newer as well and in good shape. If you guys want some pics before I get started I can post some up.

good looking bike, congrats! I learned how to ride mostly on my brothers 200s, that thing was a beast and made learning to ride a trike saf'er than starting on say a 250R :D

ENJOY IT!

Im going to redo quite a few things. Is there anywhere you can get OEM Red Honda paint? It would be nice to be able to redo the gas tank and front fender in matching red to the back fenders.

Also Im open to some constructive advice, Ill be refinishing a ton of the trike it will most likely look completely different when im done. So any advice will be fine with me. changes, paint, material etc....

Also what can be used to fix the fenders? Anything that can rejoin them and then be sanded down and painted like it was never there? The front fender has a few cracks

also here is a pic of a scooter I changed up a little bit. Painted all the black peices and new stickers and some small changes. This I guess is for the honda guys out there. Im pretty good with a spray can lol. Its FS by the way also.
