Hi I just bought a 1984 200x for $250 with new plastics for it and new tires all around. It is a bit rough cosmetically but runs pretty good from what I see so far although it is hard to start sometimes, would appreciate any help with that issue and also I am looking for a new gas tank so if you have one let me know.

Download a manual and check it over. Timing and everything. Lots of help there to help you out. Im currently doing the same thing with one I just got a few days ago. Im getting valve chatter and everything seems to be where it needs to be but still investigating my situation yet.

thats an awesome deal you got there. Valves could need adjustment. Carb could need adjustment as well.

yeah, slow jet can cause hard starting and poor cold idle.
It's tiny too.
For years, I thought they were .006" but they are actually more like .010.
Some kinda crusty crystalline almost needs a drill bit kinda hard stuff.

How's it start now?

Haven't tried yet i am gonna strip the frame right down paint it and the clean everything one by one and reassemble and replace parts as needed also the person i bought it off had bought 86-87 rear plastics for it that i will have to install instead of 83-85 plastics anyone know how to do that properly they look a little different but with minor mods should work and i have heard of it done before

i don't think the 86' plastics will fit too good. they are different frames... square instead of the round tubing. There is another member looking for plastics for his 86'... he maybe interested in them? I have a clarke tank for your machine... I'd sell it pretty reasonable. let me know.

Good looking machine though!

Well these are maier and you have to make all your mounting holes and whatnot and when i set them on the frame they look extremely close and i have heard of other people doing it i was just looking for some reasurance and about the tank i don't know about plastic, what does it look like and how much do you want? but probebly i am gonna stay with an oem but doesn't hurt to look at it. also who is this member looking for the 86 i have been thinking it might be better to sell the 86 maiers and try to get some oem rears or even the proper maier for my trike. I would love to swap for a nice gas tank for the plastics

Hey guys i need help what is the trick to getting the swingarm bolt out, i took the nut off and drive it back a bit with no problem and then it wouldn't slide out any more so that i could remove the swing arm from the frame for paint. I have a feeling it has something to do with the needle bearing......am i right???

JJMF1979

So after alot of bull sh$t i got the swing arm pivot bolt out (with a sawzall) and now i am down to the frame and ready to sand, prep and paint, my question to you guys is i have heard of getting an extended swing arm for the 200x and i liked the look of the one i saw somewhere so how do i go about doing that is it another swing arm off a different model or a custom mod??

139165139166139167Is it stupid to paint a handlebar with tremclad or is it ok, i am wondering if when i slide the bar grips on and screw back on the throttle and what not if it will peel or mess up the paint? and if you think it is not a good idea to use tremclad what would you use?

Anyone know why my 84 200x has the old 83 style tube swingarm on it and if the more squarish normal 84 200x swingarm would fit on it? I thought only the 83's had that tube style of swingarm?
