I spotted this on craigslist. I'm not considering buying it but Is it rare and is it worth the price? Its in beautiful condition and I thought to pass it along. I'm really curious to know the history of this machine. Is what he says true and its worth 7K or is he in fantasy land.

You probably wont find a nicer one, but Damn 7 grand is a lot of cash. They are rare, but not so rare that you dont see 3 or 4 pop up on craigslist each year.

That guy has been trying to sell that thing for years...now I see why...7K??? Maybe in a crate...

Maybe $4,000 in a good economy and you would have to hold out for the right buyer. I have to say it is in my opinion extremely nice though.

I agree with everything you said, 100%......

Probably never see a nicer one than that. Worth 7,000 to someone with that kind of money to toss around I say. Your average utility quad is that much let alone a rare piece such as that. I have one and now I know how much work is in front of me.....lol.... I would venture to say if you took the total of less than 4000 made by number that have been crashed, parted and scrapped you are in the less than 1/2 of the 87's left...just a guess. Someday 7000.00 will never touch that trike in its condition.....someday.My honest middle class workin man's price.......3500.00 as well. Hard one to find in that shape man!!!

It is actually my bike, I am just throwing it out there, I really don't want to sell it but just wanted to test the market and figured you never know about some of the collectors out there. It is the cleanest one I have ever seen and I have had and have a bunch of bikes. Here are some more pictures of it. The tank was just refinished by a professional body shop in Shasta white, brand new OEM seat, Kill Switch, powder coated foot pegs and rear skid plate, New OEM rear tires and all the rest is 100% original, also have the title, owners manual, 87 200X brochure. For the right collector there might be some interest, if not I will keep it forever and watch it go up in value.

^ No offense, but I've watched your prices drop on your grab bars and such after countless re-lists........

Maybe you got a great deal on all those parts you bought, but the economy is not there.

Maybe someone would pay 5K, IDK?, but I ride my stuff.

I don't think it will go up in value if it's at 7K in your mind today; UNLESS, the economy gets better and someone has the cash for a beautiful trike.

I'd pay 3K and ride it like I stole it; I'm just not a collector.........

? Why didn't they clear coat over the right side tank decals???

12-25-2011, 04:17 PM
I do ride my bikes just not this one, I really could care less if it sells and I don't plan on it. You are also right on the parts they have dropped, I sold a lot of stuff and now the rest is just going to sit for a while in the attic. I helped a lot of people out by buying the parts so people could have a fair shot at getting them. The guy that has the other batch from PA is struggling now to sell what he has for the crazy prices he is asking.

Dirtcrasher
12-25-2011, 04:21 PM
^ Then I would buy his stuff and keep that in the attic also. Unless the world ends, parts will always go up in value.

Now is just not the time for 150$ grab bars; But in time??..................

If it were mine it would take $7000 to pry it out of my hands. Nice trike, probably the nicest 200X I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing!!:beer

Maybe the amount of trikes we can own is related to our storage space and time

Thanks guys, I have to many bikes and I need to make room for some new toys. I ride mostly with my daughter, she has a raptor 50 and I ride with her on my Raptor. I was thinking of buying the parts from that guy again but it is just to long of a ride and he wanted to much this time around. He is asking like $275 for a headlight.....not in the economy. I got lucky when I bought the other parts, they sold like hot cakes and for great money.

Merry Christmas!

Donzi,, your 200X is missing the rear fender "WARNING" decal, I still have a few left.. Also I will post my 1987 200X soon, it is a one owner with the original title from the dealership from WORLD OF POWERSPORTS in Cape Girardeu MO. Even has the original Dealer tag that hung from the handlebars with all the original paperwork. It was nice but I have been making it a mint OEM machine, I have replaced a few parts only because they didn't look new new... You have a very nice one there Donzi and the only MINT MINT zero hour machine I have ever seen went for 12 grand on ebay, it's in my avitar. yes 12 grand, some of you guys might remeber that one.

one of my friends i used to ride with when i lived in iowa has an 87 200x. him and his brother used to ride it all the time. their dad bought it for em way back when, their dad also has a fresh restored #'s matching 69 Z28. i know they plan to restore the 200x sometime and if they ever need any nos oem parts ill be sure to point em in the right direction. id pay 7k for this trike too, i know that doesnt seem practical too all but everyone has their own view. i appreciate the appearances of my machines and when they look to nice to ride then that really changes the value of it in my eye. i would probably only go as far as starting a mint machine every once in a while to cycle the oil and roll the trike around or slowly ride around on a grass lawn to keep the grease distributed. follow that up with a bath good drying and park it.

very nice 200x donzi!! i have to say though, since it is not 100% original, it could deffinately use a polish on the fork lowers and bottom tripple!! be well worth it!!

I would love to see pictures of your bike, post them when you get a chance. I do remember seeing the mint 200X go for 12K, they are worth what people are willing to pay for them. I had bunch of OEM parts that I was going to use to make a perfect bike but this bike was so clean that I didn't need any of them........I should have kept the brand new forks I had!

Nice looking bike, did you replace the side engine case? I should have held on to the other parts I had but I sold most of them except for the new OEM rear skid plate and a few other parts. I am thinking these are probably two of the nicest bikes that are left out there.

that is a nice bike but not for $7 grand, only unless if it still in crated then it be worth something. your bike still looks nice, same as mine old 1987 atc 200x mine was in mint cond and all original bike right down to stock tires since 87 & mine bikes has only original 80 hrs on it, i was only 2nd owners but sadly i sold it back in Dec 2003 for $1500 to a happy owner in north Jersey somewhere. i was looking to buy it back. I miss that a great bike.

See that doesn't look that much different then our bikes! I guess a mint 87 200X is a bargain at $7,000 :) On a serious note see if you could find the link I would like to see more pictures of the $12K bike.

The thing is just the tank/fenders/seat and dash with a key would net you quite a bit of cash back.

I don't advocate parting trikes but I would buy that if it were in my area and steal what I wanted and build up another 200X.......

what's happening buddy?
I had to sell all my toys in the summer of '09 due to a severely broken wrist. Was in and out if surgeries for about 9months but they were able to save my hand :)
Do you still have your mint R's?

I would buy iut if I didn't already have one :p It is well worth the price with the OEM plastic intact and looks to be in real good shape and it's only about a 2 hour drive from me!

:naughty:no disrespect ,but if I had that trike I'd ride it like it was meant to be rode trails ,mud ,sand ,water crossings ,never understood the fun of owning something "TO RARE or SPECAIL " to ride ,or drive ,trailerQueens, show no go = not as much fun as enjoying things , but then thats just me and my 2cent. I have some nice bikes but i get them dirty, ride it you cant take them with you in the end!!:D:beer:crazy:but I do love the pics :pics::pics::cool:

yea the 87 200xs are low production numbers but there is a fair amount of nice ones out there I think because of the fact that people thought about keeping them nice after knowing they would not be made again , still a cool bike though I have restored I think 3 87s to showroom new over the past 10 years all with all nos plastic this is back when i could just order from honda . man I miss those days .. I do have a super low hour 87 for myself that will get restored for my own collection one of these years I have a stock pile of nos parts for it been collecting them for around 8 years now , will be a close to brand new as you could get . here is some pics of the last 87 I did a few years ago Its not finished in the pics but close rear brake not hooked up , tank shroud etc so they are around just stashed in places you would never expect.

Thanks for sharing the pics mike, loooks perfect! One question, what is the period correct front tire for the 87 200X? p/v or spelled out pro vector and is it a 23.5 OR 24 IN P/V.. WHAT IS THE ORIGINAL SHOWROOM TIRE?

Mike, nice pictures that is one sweet looking machine. I do ride some of my other bikes just not this one do to the rarity of it, I have a 250R that I like to ride and a few other 4 wheelers. Where I live there is not many places to ride. I will keep you posted if I get any offers!

is the 87 the only one with the red swinger?? i thought the 86 was silver? nice 87's! mike, that is stunning! is the dollar figure for a resto like that anywhere near 5 figures?? Or more like half that?? just curious!

back when you could still buy all the plastic from honda i could restore one of these alot cheaper but when hunting and buying just the plastic cost over 2K thats just the tip of the iceburg for parts needed to pull off a showroom resto , you would not beleive how fast parts add up its the little things like the correct grommets, bearing , bushings and correct collars and such so easy to have 5K just in parts throughout a build , so to answer your question yes something to this caliber would be in the 5 figures for sure
