A guy where I used to live in NJ had an absolutely pristine one for sale back around 1994 out in front of his house. It was spotless down to the like new original tires, he wanted $1200 and I was like "good luck", I wish I'd have bought it and just laid it up. One day it wasn't out there anymore so I stopped in to see if he had it and wanted to make a deal, he said it got stolen off his lawn. :(

Doesn't surprise me if it wasn't chained to something.

It was chained up when I was there, it only takes a couple of seconds to snip it with some bolt cutters.

I'm glad I bought mine back when they were cheap. They'll probably be burying me with mine so it doesn't matter what its worth. I have no qualms about flogging mine like the pig that it is anyway so it'll never be worth as much as as a clean original and its too late to go back now.

Something like this one here would have a $1700 tag on it in Minnesota, Iowa,Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois from what I watch. But there $1500-$1700 and IDK if they ever sell for that and they are on CL on and off for a year. So I think people are asking more for them then what they sell for.

This is actually my bike and I was surprised to see it shoot up so quick on Ebay but it seems that there is a lot of crap out there. The guy asking $7000 I think personally is asking a little much for that bike and I think it is helping my bike in the auction. There have not been many touch ups on the bike as someone mentioned, the guy that I bought it from painted the foot pegs, shifter and kick starter as well as the heat shield, I was going to powder coat everything and paint the exhaust like I did on my other bike (Last picture) but this bike is super clean and the plastics barley even have a scratch on them. The reason for the Clarke tank was because the bike sat in a barn for 10 plus year and was never ridden except around the guys yard once and a while, the gas sat in the tank and turned it blackish color.

Merry Christmas!

Beautiful 86! Tires show some time, but hell, were talking 26 yrs old now.......

Get some stickers on that fender!

Thanks! The stickers are on the fenders already just didn't take pictures in time, I had the fenders wet sanded and buffed, they really look nice and the rims are almost perfect on the bike.

Yeah $4,225 was not bad in the market. The bike really is clean, seat is perfect, rims are like brand new and the plastics are perfect. Everything else is in great shape. The unfortunate thing is he could part the bike out for much more than that, sad days when people do that to a mint bike.

How did you come to this conclusion? Because we both live in Surprise? Do you think this is a 2 horse town? You are absolutely 100% wrong, but thanks for providing false information.

Just to clarify,

The machine on EBAY for BIN $6,999 is a machine that cycleguy1979 picked up in extremely low hour condition. I have seen it and it is perfect in every detail. All the part out "haters" need to get some money together or this machine may end up in parts if is does not sell.......

Just before Christmas I offered my restored and OEM machines on here for $4K a piece. They will be for sale again in 2012 sine the Mayan calendar says the worlds gonna end anyway.....but seeing that one go for $4225 my prices just went up.

I agree with Pantera. Dcreel's ATC around the midwest would go for $1500-$1700. But the craigslist ads would probably be higher. That thing is worth that much around here.

Prices that I've noticed on 85-86 250R/350X's are:

$1000 or less gets you junk. You are luck if you can get something that runs for $1000.

$1000-$1500 gets you something that either runs good and looks rough, or looks good and runs rough. Usually has neglect like torn up seat, busted plastic, mismatched parts, etc...

$1500- $2000 gets you something nice. $1500 means you'll be replacing bearings, throwing chains, sorting out jetting, etc.... $2000 gets you something that you can actually ride, and maybe hop on the next time and ride again without turning wrenches.

$2000+ is a free for all. Crackheads with $2000 bikes asking $4000 and people with $4000 bikes letting them go for $2400.

I agree with you on the Part Out Haters senario, if people can't pony up the money to buy the bike then it is what it is. I am only saying it is a shame to part out a mint original bike. I am happy that cycleguy is a member on here and that is great that he is willing to offer the bike to members for $4,000. I am simply saying that $7,000 is a little high in this market, I hope he gets it but mine was super clean and very low hour machine and it brought $4200.

Let me know what you have for sale maybe I will take it off your hands if it is super clean.

Thanks

Its all a gamble taking someones word on what has been done to the machine. Here is how my 2 panned out.

Bought the 86 250r in April of 2010 It was a very clean all stock runner the first year it needed frame PC to look very nice all the plastic was great. To keep it running for the first summer I HAD to do this, front wheel bearing, front caliper pistons and rebuild kit, new axle carrier mine was cracked and pivot bearings and brakes. Now I rode this this almost 2000 miles and replaced alot of other things I in the mean time cuz I had it apart. Most people run there atv with metal on metal brakes, worn out wheel bearings and chain. Its all how anal a guy wants to be. I replaced everything and made new. I paid $1500 for it.
My 85 ran and looked even better than the 86 had a PSI pipe and PSI ported cylinder I put on mabey 300 miles on it it needed a coil. I gave $1500 for that one too in may of 2010. Both machines had worn out motors and one is all dun for now. I'd say any R that runs and needs a seat and all the plastic, tires will bring $1000 yet.
