I know people put 185 or 200 auto clutch engines in their 'x' frames when they blow 'em up
so an 'x' engine should fit, right?

Try the search key for 'auto x'.

If it's gearing you're after, may be easier to change tire sizes.

Look up some threads by BCredneck, anything is possible. You would have to switch out the entire motor in order to have that 6th gear. You are going to have to modify the motor mounts on the frame too.

I was thinking do all the 200xs have the 6-speed transmissions or just the later years? maybe an earlier trans would work not sure though. If there is a difference in the years what are they, that might help also.

Just the 86 and 87 200x motors have the 6 speed tranny. They mount in different also. Trust me there is not room in the first generation cases for another gear. I screwed up and put a .020 thick thrust washer in the wrong place on my 85 200x and it wouldn't allow the transmission to shift.
