View Full Version : Why O why do I sell on Ebay!! RANT!

WisconsinJohn

Day 1 auction ends.
Day 2 buyer pays me. I package item, and look for his address on Paypal. States the transaction was cancelled?
Day 3 talk to buyer, I copy the transaction from paypal and post in email to him. All should be ok to ship, little confusing.
Ship item.
Day 4 buyer asks for tracking...auction had free shipping with 7-8 business day delivery. I ship parcel post, I tell buyer no tracking is included with free shipping.
Return email from buyer states he thinks I am dodging him, how he wants his item and doesnt believe I shipped...
and will complain to Ebay and Paypal.
I have 100 percent positive feedback since 06...I email him a link to a scanned post office receipt I post on photobucket for
proof of shipment.
Why cant he read the auction, and understand 7-8 business days means slow, un-tracked FREE SHIPPING?
Waiting for the Paypal dispute, already shipped item...hate stupid buyers.
If I didnt need the money to fund other stuff, I would be a HOARDER!

A 1.00 dollar tracking # would have saved you from all the headaches and their would be no paypal dispute . Yes ebay sucks thats why I havent sold on their in a couple years sence they changed their feedback system .

That is ebay now and days. I have had it where buyer pays for item and then I print shipping label and luckly I didnt get a chance to actually take it in to the post office and the buyer thought item was shipped. So he filed an claim saying his account was used by someone other than him.

Also had a issue where a guy had asked if I would ship a caliper to hawaii priority mail and I said yes. Well he bought it a week later and I was selling an average of 20 parts a week and I didnt catch that this was the same guy I talked to in Hawaii. Well the next day after I ship he emailed me all pissed off that it wasnt shipped priority mail because he says it takes 30 days for them to get it through parcel post. It was my mistake and I did offer him a refund when I got the part back but he complained and said that if I didnt refund him right away that he would complain and file a dispute through ebay and paypal. So I said I will refund you now but you must ship back when you get it. He agreed and tracking showed it was delivered the next week and after many emails to him do you think I ever saw that part again? Nope. I was out $50 plus $12 shipping.

This is what ebay has created now and days. I would pull my account and boycott but you just cant make the cash you can with them. We need a new auction site or ebay needs a new president,

I think a 3WW auction site is a great idea, screw ebay!! I just started selling on there and have nothing nice to say about it.

Ya, I have learned my lesson with the tracking number. It's the aggrivating "I want it now where is it?" attitude when they know they wont pay or ask for faster shipping in a message. I guess I will be quoting that in my auctions.

I was told that paypal turns everything into the IRS now too!!! Taxed when you buy the item and more charges to sell it now.

I saw a story where guy buys violin from lady then complains to Paypal it doesnt match the description and he wants to return. OK. Paypal telephone customer service tells him to destroy the item and take a photo of it destroyed and he will get a refund and the lady will get a picture of her $2500 destroyed violin

Read paypal's policy fine print and you will find where they require you to destroy the item and send photo to get a refund. Now that really makes me want to sell on ebay.

I sell on Ebay often. I always figure shipping for Priority with a tracking number. For each and every thing I sell. I havent had any real problems yet. Sometimes I will eat something just to keep the buyer from leaving bad feedback, but that rarely happens.

I hate how ebay AND paypal take a chunk of your sale :/

i sold an NOS front bumper for a 70 Cutlass for $700. they payed me with pay pal. as soon as i give him a tracking number he disputed the payment. i had all my ducks in a row and provided all the information and pay pal ruled in my favor. it just sucks that good people have to go to extreme measures to protect themselves. and it is calles feePay now. all the fees to sell there just sucks.

Dear carie0422,

Once again, as our policy is stated in the ad, unless a product was misrepresented that we do not accept returns. I am sorry that you ordered a part that is specific to a bike other than the one that you own, What I can do is help you identify the bike that you have so that in the future you will be able to purchase the correct parts. Your vin is usually located on the steering neck of the frame, with a few exceptions vehicles made since 1981 have a 17 digit vin number, the 10'th number will tell you the year of the vehicle (A=1980, B=1981 etc. (the entire year code chart is available on Wikipedia by searching VIN number)) That will tell you the year of your bike, if you have less than a 17 digit VIN it is likely an older model bike, in that case the year of the bike would be determined differently based upon the brand of the bike (i.e. Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, etc) Have you narrowed the bike down to a specific brand at this point?

Dear carie0422,

I am sorry, but I cannot refund once the item was fitted to a bike (because its no longer "new") You should really run the vin number on your bike through one of free the vin decoders that are available on the internet so that you can determine the year/make/model of your bike. Many parts for motorcycles (just like cars and trucks) are different from year to year even if is the same make/model.

I have complained about it to ebay...things like this and all i get is the same automated email that says.....we are investigating it. And I never hear back at all. I hardly sell anymore because of this. Good luck on the kawasaki fender. I hope they do not leave poor feedback. A buyer did that to me once because they bought the wrong part.

Actual question here : does anyone really save that much by shipping Parcel Post?

I use the Post Office for 95% of my shipments and almost every time it is maybe $1 cheaper to send a package Parcel Post compared to Priority...never seems worth it to me to save a buck but increase the delivery time by several days. I'll second the need for a tracking #....always. It is well worth the $.70 or whatever it is. For me the bottom line is: take as much worry away from the buyer as possible - every day they don't have their widget, they worry more. No tracking # = worry. Also, when it comes to disputes - no tracking # means big trouble for the seller, imo.

Ebay fees suck big time. Nuff said.

All she has to say is that it doesn't fit her bike, was listed wrong and wishes to return it.

It does not matter what you write in the auction. EBAY is on the buyers side and if she proves she sent it back, you eat it. She could send you back a box of rocks or different fender of similar weight, and you can't prove anything.

Hypothetically (but seriously), if I was to make a venue where a 3ww member could list parts/junk forsale and do like a miniature ebay type scenario, would anyone actually use it or just stick to the classifieds?

That sounds like a big can of worms. I'd use it both as a buyer and seller as long as there is some way to hold people accountable - there in lies the worms.

Great idea but I think It may be a step in the wrong direction for this site. I love this site. Maybe we should all brainstorm for awhile on it. Like once a month do an auction?? Maybe a try out for a day or something like that. I am fine buying/selling on the classifieds but always open to new ideas. BTW ebay suuuucks in my opinion also.l

I'm no expert on computers or people but I think the "Can of Worms" would be just that. As appealing as it sounds you would almost have to have it set so it was only visible to sight members. don't know if that can be done or not? Otherwise you will start having folks joining 3ww just to watch the auctions to see if they can get it cheap enough to repost on eBay for a profit. I'm still new to the sight and trikes (less than a year) but would rather deal with someone on here who is an enthusiast rather than an eBay entrepreneur. So far I have had nothing but positive dealings with members. Most parts I have purchased here have been at or most times below the "market" price eBay tends to set. I will feel obligated to do the same when I start sifting through and finding excess parts I no longer need as kinda of a "pay it forward" gesture. (this is not a bad thing!)I've also read the feedback threads and love how the members stick up for each other to make folks accountable for the actions within the classifieds. Makes one think twice about pulling one over on another member! I would be afraid that these cultures could possibly disappear due to the enthusiast being overtaken by the entrepreneurs in numbers in time. Sorry so long winded, just one guy's opinion on the matter who according to my wife is now "addicted to 3ww. ;)

I have never sold anything on ebay, but I have bought some items at the "buy it now" price and not auction. If I was a HTML programing geek I'd totally make a site. But I can't even make a good pet portrait site for myself. God help me the day someone actually buys a painting from me on my website, I wouldn't know what to do. all my sales have been local.

It might work as long as it's kept strictly to offroad toys.. You never know until you try it out. Potentially it could work, but I think what we have going on now works quite well (albeit it definitely could use some improvements to the system).

This is correct. I am in the middle of an Audit right now and for 2010 they dug up $19,200 worth of income from ebay sales. I am getting hit with tax, interest and fee's for this......

From talking to the IRS agent, this is not what triggered the audit. It was an $1800 gambling win that i had forgotten about that ended up getting me.

01-10-2012, 03:10 PM
Dang that sucks. I didn't realize that whoever pays out the gambling money reports it. So they looked in your checking account and saw PayPal deposits? What kind of fees and interest are you looking at? Hope it works out for you

If you were to design an auction site on 3WW, put significant limits on it to start: HONDA Trike parts ONLY, and only certain models. See how it works and what people think of it. If it fails, kill it. If not, expand very very very slowly. Keep re-evaluating.

WisconsinJohn
01-12-2012, 06:06 PM
The more I think about it, the more I want to use it now. I just spent hundreds on parts over the last month, I would rather, if possible it stays within the 3wheelerworld community. I also think it should be an exclusive to members, after a trial period or some other "hazing". If it had an editor similar to ebay where you could upload photos directly instead of posting links that would be nice.

Billy Golightly
01-12-2012, 07:54 PM
The only way it could really work is if it replaced the entire classifieds system with something significantly better. More work than I want to undertake right now :) Maybe in the future.
