so ive seen alotta guys that have restored the little ATC70 trikes and are in love with the things. i just wanna ask, whats the obsession with them? i know theyre pretty cool, but it seems to me that the number of guys doin restores on those is the same as the restores on the bigger trikes.. whats your opinion?

Because they are a lot of fun... For kids and BIG kids. Almost more fun than my 250r or my Tecate. The Tri-zinger is a blast too though. We are currently looking for another 70 for the wife..

well, ridin is almost always fun. but why restore them? just to preserve the Honda ATC name? or just cause its there and you wanna do it?

Like he said.
They are cheap to build and easy to find. Put a big block engine in them and they are just as much fun as a big trike, plus they are great for small ride areas, and you can cram 3-4 of them in a small pickup truck for a quick easy afternoon of local riding.
I always wondered the same thing till I got one. It is fun to see what you can make them go up or through, no matter what engine is in them. They can make a 30 foot hill feel like a mountain hillclimb with a stock engine.

If you are ever near Coffeyville, send me a pm.. You can ride a 70, 110, Tri-zinger, '86 250r, and a Tecate.. We're building an oval and an mx track in the backyard.. Last weekend I was racing my 7 year old daughter, she was on a PW50 dirtbike I was on the 70 powershifting 2nd gear wheelies.. Good times..

They're cheap and cute. I can fit one in the back of my Civic and sneak over to an open lot for a quick hit. I can stuff it in my van with 3 other full size ATCs as an afterthought and use it around the campsite.

I bought mine on a whim for $300 3 years ago or so. It was the first 3 wheeler I've had or been on in nearly 20 years. It re-ignited the addiction.

Now it mostly sits on the table in my garage due to the other trikes taking up storage space. I would sell it but I'm emotionally attached.

Also, I weigh almost 2x what it does so I'd like to get another and put a big Chinese engine in it. Too many projects, not enough space.

Well, with me on it, 3rd & 4th are useless in the sand pack not too bad on hardpack. It will, however, hoist the front wheel all day long!

I bet I'm close to 300 these days but I haven't been on a scale in a couple of years.

because some of these ATC70'S would eat your 200x for lunch on a track!!!!

I wondered the same thing until I rode one that had a stroker crank and a 88 kit on it. Now I have one that I put a 140cc Lifan in with a manual clutch. Its a blast. Plus there is nothing funnier than watching full grown men racing trikes built for little kids.

Yea I equate the 70cc "builds" to the pitbike craze..I admit I have a 125cc z50 and some (adult worhty) BW80's and LT80's for racing around the back yard. I guess now I HAVE to find an ATC70 to be a respectable memeber of this forum....I agree too many projects not enough space (or time)!

It depends on how crazy you want to get with them. Enginuity and cash are your limiting factors. I have 2 200x engine cases modified to fit in atc70s. There is a atc250r engine modded to fit in a 70 here on the boards. There are the original racing suspension 70s on here and there are modded frames that end up being 70 based as well as bone stock and highly modded rigid frames as well as a company making full on modern suspension 70s with custom built rear shock and all. It's not too far of a stretch to get $1000 or more wrapped up in certain 70s.

i do remember rollin around on the ground laughin while my 6'5'' dad rode my stepbrother's ATC90 and our Honda Cub around on the road and in the yard. people drivin by gave him funny looks.. even with him on the 90, it would get up and go!
could you imagine a big guy ridin this thing? it was hilarious!.....

ATCTIM has a nice Cub90 and he rides it all over TF. He is not a small fella either.

You want to sell your Cub??

Thats a sweet pic of all the lil trikes Kasey. I agree with Knobby Addict about the pit bike craze. I have had just as much or more fun on my crf50 as my crf450. Same goes for my 200x and my friends atc 70's. The mini machines are just fun, reliable , and can be ridden almost anywhere

I had one a couple years ago. Had fun fixing it up and playing with it but got bored and sold it to make room for other projects. Never enough room or money.

yep, the little guys can be addictive. :beer

now i like my 70, but i feel i have to stand up for the zinger. true the zinger is not as flexable as the 70 when it comes to mods/big motor swaps, but i do prefer the seat/riding position compared to the 70. the 70 just feels like i'm sitting on top of it as where the zinger is more like i'm wrapped around it. also on another 70 thread, someone mentioned they liked how small and light the 70 was. talk about small and light. the zinger is a few inches smaller and about 110lbs

Frame is bent.. Fairly easy to fix. There is a thread on here on how to fix it.

I got this one in Coffeyville for $400 with all the original paperwork.. It was in the back of a guys pickup with a for sale sign hung on it..
