I have the ability to make my Mikuni a flange mount to a NOS intake, 12:1 and the ported head flowing into a Supertrapp exhaust. No flow benches here though

Or should I even consider a later model 250F FCR thumper carb? I could never get these Miks to start in the cold (with those other mods) as they don't have a butterfly choke. Even bumping the pilot way up did nothing. Then I got frustrated and started building 350X's but I do love my 200X's and want to make them work! I just couldn't get both the pilot and main and starting all in synch......

Cool beans my friend. So,,,you're gonna put it back together for a test mule !? lol,,,fine with me. This has GOT to be VERY cool,,,to be tinkering on the SAME stuff ,,but with 25 years more experience under your belt. Ditch heads didn't fly on the 86's right?

Thats why I hope you ported my 86/87 200X head and I hope to send you a NOS 350X head to work your magic on in the future :D

It's a good thing I took your carb apart because it was missing a washer that holds the needle jet in by the main jet. That and the needle set was stuck to gas couldn't get in,and it needed cleaning bad.

So yes I'm going to try to get it running.

I don't think the ditch porting worked on the 86',it's not something that works on every port.
That doesn't sound like it bodes well for the tank and petcock. What I expected though,,no surprise.. Funny you say that about the ex studs on the 350X head,DC here is good people. And he has specialized for many years installing stainless studs in 350X heads!! And these price increases like those valves started eating me alive after 911. The price of steel,,plow blades,,,batteries, and tires.. Quote one price,,it shows up and in some instances with plow kits... price could be $140 MORE than quoted retail. Not fun.

I'm doing a 350x big valve head I hope this week. The problem I ran in to this one is the ex studs are all messed up. That and I found out the valves now cost me more then what the price is on my web site.

I think I fixed about 30 sets of 350X head studs........ They don't come out without a mill.

The flat slide carbs can be made to work but it has the same problem not bolting onto the stock manifold. We tested all different carbs at Powroll and the biggest problem was using aftermarket maniflods with a rubber hose between the carb and manifold. Then the even bigger problem was sticking a air cleaner right on the back of the carb. The stock intake manifold(even better the xr200 manifold) made 1-2 more hp with the stock intake boot to the stock air box with a K&N.

hi mickey, im going to start building a stroker in the very near future, having your knowledge on this form is priceless.

can you elaborate on the after market intakes with the rubber hose being a problem. i just bought a 28 ml mikuni and dg intake with the rubber hose connecting them. on my set up there is a .25 inch gap between the intake and the carb, i cant help but think that gap would inhibit flow, and be the problem spot. if you could eliminate that gap would that sole the problem with this style intake. looking forward to your thoughts on this.

Does anyone use the Power Jet kits for Mikuni carbs?

[QUOTE=Dirtcrasher;1092476]I think I fixed about 30 sets of 350X head studs........ They don't come out without a mill.

What do you charge for that?

I was milling them out, facing them, using a helicoil and making stainless steel studs for about 125 -150$. Lots of time on the mill, so I bought an angle block which helped and I was layed off at the time in desperate need of any $$. Some milled/drilled out easy and some ruined 25$ carbide bits.

That helped me build this: http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php/120180-MY-BUILD-450R-swinger-on-a-350X-and-a-250R-frontend-too......IT-RUNS!!!!

Now I'm swamped running my dads apartment houses, but if you were in a bind, I think I could help you ;)
