just picked up one ratty old 85 klt110. from what ive read, they were one of the quickest little 3 wheelers for that size. i just got new carb on, checked valves, new plug and air cleaner, compression is 100psi, fresh oil. auto clutch adjusted properly. it just doesnt seem to have much power. unless im movin at a good clip, i have to shift into 1st to go up any incline. plug is pretty dark but im up to the second clip groove from top on neddle. am i just expecting too much from this machine. im 190lbs, but my xr80 sure didnt have problems movin me around. what do you think?

try the old carb ( try cleaning in first ) and see if its better performance. some new carbs are crap :( also run without the air filter ( for a few minutes ) sometimes crap is in the rubber between the head and the carb. good luck :)

according to the service manual, compression should be 164-192 PSI.

might wanna pull the head, inspect the valves, and cam for wear

i cant believe after many mths this piece of crap is back in my garage. still doesnt have full power. good up till 3/4 throtle then boggy and no power. when the cdi goes out on these, do they fade out slowly or are they just good or bad? checked timing and its spot on.

did you read the posts above? 100psi is weak for that machine. According to Hogmuffin your bike should have between 164 and 192 PSI compression reading. Have you checked that lately?

Is it smoking? If not, I would bet your compression ring is ghandi.

i have a cdi box from a china made atv 125cc, would it be crazy to try that on my klt110 just for giggles

I had a klt110 a while back. It had no compression when I got it, rings were worn bad and piston heavily scratched. I found a newer piston and rings on ebay threw it together and it was a good running little bike. It wasn't a major powerhouse but it was decently quick and would climb hills pretty easy. Definitively ran good for 110cc. Also that Chinese CDI could probably be made to work. I have rewired other bikes to run off them (XR80-100s).
