I just picked up a 1909 nagant with a ka3 stamped barrel. I'll post picks tomorrow. I've heard they are rare anybody have any insight on them?

I may have a couple books on them, I used to have several. They are really good shooting guns, for what they are and one of the few high powered rifles that you can still afford to shoot. A word of warning, the suplus ammo (even the "non corrosive") most likely have corrosive primers. If you have a nice shiney bore, run a patch or 2 through it after you shoot it. The best shooting ones I ever had were the Finnish guns. The Fins captured so many during the Winter War that the Russian Mosin Nagant was the Finnish military's official rifle. The Fins rebarreled the guns and the ones I've seen always had some figure to the wood, as well as a noticable differnce in the blue quality between the barrel and action. I remember when the M44's started coming into the US, I bought many for $40 each. Of course I was buying .223, 7.62X39 and 45ACP for $75/1000. That was the good ol' days.

I am a big fan of these rifles. Well worth putting a scope on.

Yea I've had an m44 for a while. I wanted a long barrel so I traded two ratty old black powder kit guns to a guy for this one without even seeing it. Some of the stampings on it were new to me but from what I can tell it was a Finnish captured gun. It has a ka3 mark on the barrel shank indicating that it a Cossack mounted infratry gun. From what I've read they seem hard to come by. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
