Regular packing is fairly cheap at your local shop, but in a pinch fiberglass batt insulation works fine

anyone ever use small sized lava rock or pumice rock ?

I would assume it would last a long time , and be effective.

I don't think that rock (no matter how porous is very sound deadening) unless some of the finely ground gravel produced from the vibration works its way into the expansion chamber and gets scavenged into the cylinder, that would quiet things down in a hurry...

Seriously, muffler packing is only about 10 bucks. Just buy the right stuff! http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/43/53/207/905/-/8816/FMF-2-Stroke-Silencer-Packing

I don't know how much more inexpensive you can get than that..... If that's too rich for your blood maybe it's time to sell the trike...

I got some stuff from the bike shop
fmf or some crap. fiberglass.
Maybe it was old and dried out but it was in new packaging from the bikeshop.

It blew a cloud of sparkles the size of my 2 story freakin' house.
I even ran it for a couple hrs and it never quit puking breathable sparkles.
Pity the poor sob riding behind me.

so I just gave it back to the guy and used stainless steel pot scrubbers
like 4 or 5 packed loosely.
I think lavarock would be ok on a 4 stroke if it was packed into the
spun wirewool but not sure it would be necessary.

What kind of engine and muffler type?
I had a tapered cobra and it was impossible to keep it packed.

My next will be a ford tractor muffler.F04 for 12$
but I also want to be legal for off road volume and spark arrest.

on an episode of muscle car on spike, the guys made glass packs and packed it with steel wool.

FMF 2stroke silencer packing is all I use. 10 bucks and you can do about 2 or 3 bikes with it.
