When I start up my tri-z it smokes pure white smoke then kinda dissapears quick. It has a sweet kinda smell to it.Would this be a coolant leak into the cylinder? The base gasket looks rough, like its worn out or torn...I drained the tranny oil and it was fine.

And would this cause it to run bad?Cause it starts but wont idle right and then will die after a few seconds.
It will only start with the choke on even though its 80 degrees out.

It ran find during the winter.Had a new piston and rings put on.Now its doing this..

Tri z's are know for bad base gaskets. Do a search on the boards for the gasket. A member was making them and it help solve the problem

Did you ever figure out what caused it to lock up?

Kick starter gear wasn't seated properly in case and was engaging wrong when I tried to kick it.Got that fixed, put new piston and rings in and now this!?

I think the person who did the top end did not replace the base gasket! And the one on there was ripped in places, missing a piece on the corner, and gritty/grimey.

If they didn't replace it that would be the culprit wouldn't it?..Weird/rough idle then dies.
