What do you guys think? Looking for my first bike to use as a rider. He says he will take 500. I'm tempted but concerned of missing pieces. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Things I should look for/ask etc

The guy appears to be a little bit of an idiot claiming it will do 100mph+ (not looking to start a war here, there are lots of top-speed threads on the site), but I would say for $500, it is worth it just for the parts. Even if stuff is missing, you'll be ok at that price. If it actually does all go back together without missing pieces, that'd be a bonus.

I do worry about people that claim "Professionally Rebuilt" though... that doesn't really mean anything other than he paid some guy to put it together for him. It also begs the question if he dumped all this money into it, what caused him to just drop the project.

For $500, I'd take a gamble on it! (and it looks to be a '86 version to boot)

As Wonderboy said, there's at least that in parts.

I try and steer clear of people like that. He probably cut the OEM fenders so he can do sportbike wanker wheelies. Find yourself a clean one and save yourself some headaches.

Never heard of "Powerall" lifters and springs... Heck, I never even knew 350x's HAD lifters???

That .001 bore job must have been tricky too!

Around my area, $1,000 is a little steep for a 350x basket case. Might be ok for you area though...

He makes alot of outlandish and ill informed claims like the engine being worth 2g alone, speed and 3-5g easy for the assembled trike.

He is either trying to snowball a potential buyer or is just plain ignorant.

But, you might be able to work a descent deal if he is desperate to sell.

Caution is the word.

He definately sounds eager to sell, I said hed be better off selling the parts individually and that I wouldn't pay more than 500 for it and he said hed take 500. As far as 100+ yeah I'd be surprised to see it do over 70 personally. I gotta research everything some more, something seems perhaps a bit fishy.

can you put the thing together or know a buddy that can help? $500.00 is a good deal if everything is there. some guys thrash the motors and then sell it :( check it out and compare what parts you have and there condition. something as simple as the head can go for a couple of bills if yours is bad. i usually find the 350x with the @#%@ oil filter in backwards :( thats an easy check to do right on the spot. that usually tells me if the engine is toast and lets me see shavings or worse. if you cant assemble/fix the bike than you are talking more money. my 350x is a blast, but for every hour i ride, 2-3 is spent keeping it runnin good :)

My cousin iis quite adept at working on bikes and is going to help me. I figure if he has the reciepts for the motor like he claims he does it must be in decent order. I will check the oil filter, thanks for the tip.
