For the last few years my motto has been that once trike stuff makes it to my house it has met its final destination. I have collected trikes and parts for years now and it's come to a head. I had too much stuff to even attempt to try and organize it all and too many trikes to keep them all going. Letting them sit is the worst thing you can do to them as most of you know.

My buddy bought a house about a month ago so I gave him my ATC 110 as a house warming present. One down.

Just yesterday I gave TecateDan a KILLER deal on everything I had (including my runner) for the A1/A2 Tecates. I had too much stuff just in Tecates alone, so away it went.

My 86 Tecate is next out the door.

This is a big deal to me, I never thought I would get rid of trike stuff never mind get out of Tecates. I need to get organized though and I hope to someday have a TPC so we'll see what the future brings.

Are you getting out all together or just freeing up some space?

Im with you on this Fabio. I had around 9 trikes, some together and some not. I felt that they needed new homes since I couldnt get them all going. I finished building a 70 for my son, fixing my Z now, saving my other 70 to fix for myself and the only one left alone is the t3 which I will be trading for a parts 70 and nice sx that needs a rearend. I sold the rest of the stuff. Once I am done, I will have the Z, two 70's and an SX.

Just freeing up some space. I'll never get out of trikes altogether.

So whats gonna stay then? The zinger, the 160, the R and SX? I think that would be a nice rounded out collection if that is what you are gonna keep. I know you mentioned to me you were cleaning out some stuff, but didnt realize that much stuff was going. I am going to stop with 4 running machines total. I will have 3 after this coming weekend and want to get or put a 200X together for the girl and I think I am done. Unless I find a killer deal on a zinger or 70 for the boy.

03-26-2012, 10:56 AM
I think that's gonna be the stable Mike, but I'm not sure. The R, the SX, and the Zinger are not going anywhere for sure. I'm on the fence with the KLT. Definitely gotta pick up a TPC at some point.

A TPC would be awesome, and I someday hope to have one too. But that is a far off deal thats for sure. But I hear ya, I know you had a TON of Tecate stuff so just clearing that out I am sure made a huge dent in that small shed behind the garage there. But I think my stable is going to end up being, 350X, 200X, 250SX, and then the new addition coming. I will be happy with that as a stable until the TPC eventually makes it in.

I'm with you Fabio, I once had well over 30. I'm down to the high teens now. Too many bikes is just far too much maintenance unless you have a full time mechanic working for you. My garage time is much less stressful with only 4 or 5 projects, VS 10 or 15 projects. Sometimes you have to step back, make a educated decission, and move on. I have never looked back with regret on selling any, but was sure they all went to GOOD homes!

fabiodriven
03-26-2012, 12:58 PM
Yep, it had to be done. I used to ride the Tecate constantly but it's been parked since last Trikefest. And I didn't even ride it at Trikefest last year. My buddy who I brought with me did.

Sometimes, you have to know when enough is enough and start thinning out the herd. Just make sure everything goes to someone that appreciates it as much as you do so the stuff will live on for generations to come. Just remember, if you die with a mountain of crap, the chances are good that it will all just get canned/scrapped. seen it happen at many estate sales, but If I dont know what I am looking at, no point in me buying it.

sometimes you need to get things back into perspective so you can truely appreciate the machines you still have and maintain them like they deserve. nice work man. Except for getting rid of Tecate stuff, STOP IT. thats sacralige

Big Mike
03-26-2012, 04:17 PM
Well all of his Tecate stuff when to another Tecate lover so that is not too bad. Sometimes you gotta change the direction you are going. I applaud Fabio for making the decision, I didnt think I would ever see it happen since he is a such a trike nut, whose nuttiness got me into the hobby, but bravo Fabio for doing what so many of us here cant/wont do.

I know where you're coming from John. That's why the R is in your garage and not mine. At one point I was up to 28 trikes with about 25 that were turn key but keeping everything running and the lack of real riding space around here were a killer. I seemed to only ride the same few core bikes anyway so that's why I'm down to a 350X, Big Red, ATC 70 and an ALT 50. I think I am even ready to cut the 50 loose.

Luckily I am limited on storage space. So I only own two trikes and they have cost me enough. Not into collecting, more riding.Don't feel bad there comes a time to make decisions. If it is something you don't really care for and won't do anything with let it go.The SX you picked up is a really nice trike.I would rather a few nice ready to go trikes than a bunch of trikes that are projects.A friend of mine is in the same situation and has alot to liquidate.Thought you really liked your Tecates though?

My collection has dwindled down to only 2 left. I don't have the time, storage space and least of all the money to finish any project trikes.

Yup, we'll chat soon Mike. It's getting close enough to Trikefest, maybe I should just haul it down there. Lol

The SX you picked up is a really nice trike...Thought you really liked your Tecates though?

Thank you, I got really lucky with that SX. I was huge into the Tecates, but I just haven't been riding them lately nor have I had the drive to work on them. The place we've been riding in NH is really rough and although the other guys run R's, X's, and one Tecate, I by far am the most comfortable with my poofy balloon tires, reverse, electric start, and electric hand warmers that the SX has to offer. I almost feel bad for them when we're trekking through those rough arse trails. Almost. ;)

I've got room Greg, but I've also got so much stuff I can't get organized or finish any one project. Big Mike and TecateDan know what I'm referring to. At one time about 4 years ago I had my sheds all organized and I knew where each and every tool, bolt, oil, or part was. Now it's a heaping pile of crud. It's a dadgum mess is what it is. Todd saw my little shed setup when he came up to my first house, but when I moved that's when things went south. I'm in the midst of a mess and I can't do it anymore.

I just gotta get a Tri-Z and I will have the collection Ive wanted. ( Tecate, 250R, 350X, Tri-Z) Then I told the wife I will be done collecting and the rest can go. I will be trading a 200X for the Z as soon as its back together and then the wife can get her part of the deal, new boobs. More toys..:w00t: I know how you feel John. I got parts for trikes I dont even own laying around and parts for the ones I got everywhere. My garage was full so then projects moved into my man cave. Im still in denial and wont admit I have a problem,ha ha. Congrats man on clearing out some space.

I don't like to think of it as 'clearing out' or 'selling'...I like to think of it as rotating the stock ;) Something, at some point, will replace what was once there. It's our nature :D

I am the same way, more projects= less done. It is so hard to resist new projects though.

I love having a couple 70's, couple 200X's, 250SX, a couple 350X's and someday a 450. But guess what, ones I bought 3,4,5 years ago don't get touched. All I ride now is the 350RX. And someday soon, all I'll ride is a 450 trike. It would be so nice to have the room.......

I love having hobbies and tons of parts; But it's time (or when I have the time I have no funds) that I lack :(

Its definately a tough decision to sell off any trike, let alone a running one. All the rides I have get riden except 1. I have toyed around with selling the one 70 that just sits. It just seems as soon as I decide to sell it something changes my mind.

Know where your at, I just have a real personal issue getting rid of toys (even though last year I gave my 250r, and tecate away for pennies on the dollar). Im just now at a point for the first time in years where almost everything in my fleet is up to speed. Ive been wrenching like I'm getting ready for a trip lol. But its so nice to just get out into the garage and work on them. Turning wrenches is my therapy.......

Your not alone man! I used to have about 8-9 or so. 3 86 triz's at one point!

Im down to a 450, 265R, BigRed and a 185ssss. Down to a few, makes it easier to make them mint and get the ride time they deserve. Maintenance, riding everyone is just happier!

Dont feel bad, your not a criminal just looking out for a tighter setup :)

Every once in awhile i go through and weed them out. Too many equals being broke and pissed about having them broken down. Ive got 7 runners and a cpl that need stuff at the moment, it never ends, always new parts comin in the mail. Atleast your gettin rid of those green things, feel bad for whoever got that.....lol sorry Dan

I hear you.

I have a 70 I haven't started in a year. A couple of 84 200x's in the storage unit. An 85R and an 85 350X in my garage (I just finished the X) and an 86 350X in the yard under a tarp waiting for a refresh.

I'm one rider and try to take a guest with me when I ride. I've been debating selling the 70 and at least one if not both 200X's. They'll never get ridden once the 2nd 350X is done.

I'm emotionally attached to each but if I sell both 200X's and the 70 I'm on my way to a TPC and there's lot's of 450R's on CL...
