Bought one of these today to find it has a blown piston litterally in 5 large pieces. Metal came out the drain plug along with some other crap. Motor has been sitting a while judging by the dust on the piston. It has a cracked cylinder skirt and my question to yall is what should i do? Is the sleeve a replaceable part or am i better off getting a new motor??? Im more interested in dollar amounts as i had hoped this would be a cheep toy.

Hey there and welcome.
The following words should light up as a link to the book: service manual

Also, the search key is working great these days so if you keyword
200x piston sleeve jug etc tons of pages should come up
about people who have been through this over the years.

Wonder if the crank and rod are ok.
Maybe get away with a top job.

It would be nice to know if the gearbox shifted good before a lot of engine work.

ps
a lot of people go with whats called an auto x
Since there are millions of 185 and 200 automatics, they apparently fit right in.
Brake pedal needs some special attention but that a good search key word too:
auto x

not trying to bust your balls but......1st gen 200x's ran from 1983-1985...2nd gen 86'-87'....so either you have your years wrong..or model # wrong

Mine has a red frame and red body panels which all look origanal so im guessing first gen. I looked for an I.D. tag on the frame and cant find one? I know the second gens had reverse and 6 speeds but are the top ends identical???

Sticker may be on the headstock hiding behind a fistful of wires and cables.

There is also a way to see what it really is with some sort of vin decoder which can be found on this site somewhere too.

See if the search key works for you.
If not, I can try .

Well went ahead and ordered a used jug and piston for 50 bucks. Paid for a top end overhaul from G&H off of ebay for 150 and bought a new sproket and chain set. Should be a start to a very long list of needed parts and TLC!

I always see g&h recommended on here.
The hardest part is trying not to buy everyone that comes up for sale.
I have enough trikes for 2 more generations but just saw 2 1987's listed for 600$.

Wonder why that piston fractured?
Maybe sucked a chunk of water and the rest of it is ok?

My front brake has very little pressure so i pulled the top on the master cyl and blead the system a good while and no air came out. Probably did this 8 times with little result. The front pads look to be in decent shape and its not leaking anywhere. Do yall think i need to rebuild my master cylinder or what?

yaegerb

ok, you have a first gen. Yes, I would start by rebuilding the master cylinder. If that doesn't work then you have narrowed it down to the caliper.

Ok so I just did this yesterday on my 84 200x and had some problems at first you have to do it a certain way, you have to open the bottom banjo bolt pull the lever holding it in tighten the banjo bolt then let the lever go and repeat that 5 times or so till you build pressure, yesterday we were doing that and we were just about to give up and then the pressure built we had to fill the resevoir once in the middle too even though we were told by a friend we wouldn't have to, then once it was all bled we pumped the brakes a bit to build the pressure more with everything closed and that really helped and that was that, hope this helps if it doesn't you need to rebuild

ouch, someone really grenaded that motor. You might want to pull that motor all the way down to ensure you have cleaned all of the junk out of the tranny....and you may need a new rod anyway.

Holy cow it has been a long while since and update for this thread! Well i got the engine all buttoned up and installed. Runs like a champ but i have lost second gear probably to an incorrect installation on my part. It will be coming back apart but not until school starts again and i have time. I still dont have rear brakes because i need a caliper but i love it! Next after the mechanical parts are fixed im getting some new plastics!

I see the rear grab bar, yep, that baby is trashed....LOL. Did you get your stator yet?

I added it up and i have about 1600 in my 3 wheeler now after purchase and all the parts. I went ahead and spent 70 bucks on a new clutch setup from a company that Brendon recomended, it is the Dirt digger or something. Also have all new plastics on their way. Coming right along. Also now will have all my gears thanks to brendon!

Yeah man, i had the same thing happen with the top end of my kx when i had it. a piece of the piston literally broke off. Split the case & everything and all the motor did was break it up into little sand bits. 150535

Welp i gernaded those EBC "high performance" clutch pads. Didnt even get three tanks of fuel on em. Yes the clutch was adjusted correctly. Pulled the engine apart and the oil smelled like some nasty BBQ sauce. On two of the clutch pads there was .004inch left of pad.
