suzuki alt125 choke cable

Hello Everyone, So we're having Suzuki alt125 80's model 3 wheeler. The choke cable is partially severed directly underneath where it mounts to the handle bar. When I unscrew the cap where it goes into the carburetor the spring looks all twisted over on itself. I can lift up a little on metal sleeve that the cable goes in, but I don't want to force anything. How do I get the cable out? How is it attached inside the carburetor? Thanks for any help on this.
