it is all stock and the chain keeps coming loose, when i first got it the chain came off and cracked the casing, now that the motors fixed i need to fix the slipping bearing carrier

The '85 swingarm will fit, but you'll need to use the '85 bearing carrier & brake caliper stay as well. I'm not sure if the '86 brake caliper will mount to the '85 stay, but someone will chime in who knows for sure.

Red Rider is correct about the calipers. Both swingarms will mount up to your chassis, but you have to use the carrier, caliper and caliper mount for the year swingarm you use.

What about a 86 trx swingarm on the atc? Are they the same?

What about a 86 trx swingarm on the atc? Are they the same?Yes, the '86 TRX swingarm is the same as the '86 ATC's. The '88-89 TRX swingarms are different, and won't mount to the frame without some engine mount mods. The '87 TRX swingarm will mount to the frame correctly, but the hole in the swingarm for the shock-to-swingarm link, may not line up. I don't know if Honda changed the '87 swingarms or linkage mid-year or what, but I had an '87 swingarm that the linkage would not line up with the hole. I ended up plugging the hole, & drilling a new hole in the correct location. The '87 swingarms looked almost identical to the 86's, yet they weighed a tad more. The only thing I could tell that was definitely different, was some beefier skid-plate mounts.
