Just as the title says... Life is too short to be miserable at work everyday. Tomorrow morning; here are your keys, and company credit cards, and my invoices for the past week, and the god forsaken company cell phone... Adiós!! (Long weekend, and then start my new gig on Tuesday!)

I am leaving my job as a residential hvac service tech, and going into the local 10 sheetmetal workers union... (Commercial) Better pay, benefits, and hopefully a boss who isn't a bi-polar psychopath...

What if we, and this is a BIG WHAT IF, we introduced some sort of profit sharing?

Good for you my friend! I know the situation all to well. Just spoke to the wife on the phone(because I'm working out of town) this evening about the same thing, a Bi-Polar (actual) boss, a GM that's a coke head and his kiss ass little buddy. They make life miserable for everyone. Best of luck!!!

Brotha.... I wish U the best. I would love to tell my boss to kiss my ass...and then let him see what he really had in an employee who busts his day in and day out just to get shat on.

Congrats. When I quit my last job I gave my 2 week notice then the boss started treating me like crap, I walked out after 4 days, what did I have to lose. After a few weeks of me being gone and at my new job he starts callin me to come back. Now after almost six years he still try's to get me to go back to him. Life's to short to be unhappy at work everyday.

Goof for you! I am hoping to do the same thing here within a week. I will hopefully start building bridges for really good pay but only downfall is I will be away 3-4 days out of the week. The place I am at now is one of those that I have to practically bribe myself to go to that crap hole everyday and I dont make much more than minimum wage. Bills and stress are piling up fast! Hope all works out for you, good luck with the new job.

This morning, was one of the greatest moments of my life... Its extremely liberating to tell the boss your leaving, because he is a prick, and you cannot/will not, continue to take his abuse... 4 day (party) weekend, and I start at one of the biggest shops in Minneapolis on Tuesday! Life is pretty good...

Cool! Enjoy your new deal. Myself I've never regretted ending a job, unless you count B jobs. Talk about a pricks in the workplace tell ya what!

Hard to say. More like Rudy Guliani, no?

Good for you bud, I've seen both sides. Service isn't too bad after you park the truck away from the shoppers, and carry a recovery pump along with some R22.
The weather can be harsh, the boss wants to know "why is it taking so long" to which I reply "After getting roof access badges and all the materials, now I can fix it".

I liked service, only because they are 90% of the time it was an electrical issue, motor, filter or v-belt. I was good at the electrical part so I was in and out fast.

Then, we joined the union. Awesome money and benefits but all I can do is hang duct. No challenge other than get this volume of CFM's to that and avoid the electrician, plumber and sprinkler guy.

I have to have a challenge or I get bored.

Prior to the union, I'd spot my curb on steel (screw the blueprint), redesign all the duct, snake it in here or there and then wire up everything 24V and program all the stats to communicate with the main retail office in Ca.

I'd have to teach the electrician how to kill the indoor fan motor in case of a fire, rather than killing the unit which allows the heat exchanger to run until it cools off.

I enjoyed that challenge very much. Now I have to deal with stupid tenants. But I hope to be back in either business soon..........

Congrats on your new job :beer

Good luck w/ the new job.I've been relocating the earth a little bit at a time for 13 yrs.Decent money, lots of overtime(i dont mind),I wont be joining the 1 % anytime soon though. My only co-worker is my boss,so I cant blame anything on the other guy.We do have our moments. Most of the time its just me gitten er done.I have medical but it sux and gets worse everytime I need to use it.2 wks vacation. Desk job, retail, food industry definately isnt for me,haha. "Jim the salesmen"-If ya want the darn thing, buy it! If ya dont want it,,,Bye :)
I'm sort of a rock specialist.Rock Hill has lots of them.I've also been asked"Where's the crew of mexicans?"I reply with"I am the crew of mexicans, the operator, the driver, and mechanic, now get outta my way and let me work." I'm a rude dude sometimes.

Yep, there is a lack of skilled workers in pretty much all metal industry (i'm A machinist myself) and most companys jump on someone with skill!! I left my first Metalworking shop after only 7 months because It was just so run down, and all the management was pretty much a bunch of A**holes. Much happier where I am Now! Brand new building, mostly new machines, A/C, purified air, and the President of the company is there every day, so any issues can be brought to that great guy.

Its amazing how just the set of people you work with can make or break your happiness even if the shop is run down or brand new. Funny part is, the shop I left was in business for over 40 years and didn't have their trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro straight! the one I'm at now is only 13 years old.

^ Our shop finally broke down and spent 40K on a mill and lathe.

I tried telling them for 4years what 1 10th of a thousand was, they had no clue. I was never taught, had to learn it all on my own.........

They ended up stopping the production line and just slapped a "assembled in the USA" from boxes that originated in China.

Thats when I got into HVAC; And the more responsibility the more I loved. I just have to find the right shop, wait until my father loses everything and get back in the game.
