The wife and I just finished up our first batch of Strawberry Jam of the year. Tonight we picked, cleaned, and canned 31 half pint jars of the stuff. That is just a tick under 2 gallons of jam!! We usually freeze some of the extra strawberries to use for other things over the rest of the year. I am going to try to save enough to whip up a batch of strawberry wine this year. It never seems to happen though.

Like ER said. Mine are still little white flowers!! Are these the little wild ones as big as your wifes pinky? OR tame? My Mom used to pick around 15 gallons of the wilds. yep,Best Mom in the world. While we were in the field and milking, she was berrying. Always had a nasty tan across the bottom of her back! Make sure you make some strawberry shortcake Hoosier! And strawberry pie.. And a piece of toast w butter and fresh ,warm jam,,,,,,oh yeah..Nothing beats homemade jam! My sis was just down from Alaska and used up half her packing to get a quart of my Syrup back up there, and she brought us a pint of Alaskan berry jam. Great,,but not the same..

I don't have any berries yet either. I usually get mine form the orchard, because the kids (and the neighbor kids) will eat the strawberries as soon as they rippen.
Normally once school is out for the year, I pick a day and the kids and I go to one of those "pick your own berries" orchards.
My son loves my jam. When we run out, he tells me he can't wait till I make more...I love that. Store bought is just not the same.
I want to do grape and raspberry this year too, in addition to the regular garden canning.

It was absolutely amazing how good it was. The only complaint we got is that we only brought 1.

Here is the recipe:

Next time we make it we are going to add a little more corn starch to thicken it up some more. It was kind of a slow ooze when we cut it and tried to get it out of the pan.

Let me know how it turns out.

We put a few extra berries on the top that the recipe didnt call for. I dont think it hurt a thing lol.
