1984 Honda 250r

I recently bought a 250r and it won't run. Sometimes it will kick over and other times it won't. It has spark and it's getting gas. It will start when I bump start it but it will only run when I'm pulling it. Would a cr 250 engine in it preform well in it?

i believe the kick starter clutch is worn, a replacement will require pulling the engine and getting into the transmission.. not much fun and costly.. does it have good compression ? im thinking it needds rings ..

When I say it won't kick over I mean the kick start will not budge. I want to put a cr 250 engine in it. Will it preform well. What engine should I put in it.

a running engine is better than a non-running engine but you mAY HAVE to do some fabricating . if the engine u want to put in is an 85 or older i would pass cuz the 86 and up engines are better.. but thats me

I'm thinking late 90's to 01. I'm aware it won't just bolt in. Or is a bigger engine the way to go?
