Hi All,

I am sure like others I need things spelled out for me. I would like to start a thread to help all the people (including myself) needing instructions and a parts list to build the monster 600x trike as well was make it as versatile as the stock 350x.

It seems as the 83-84 atc 250r tripple trees are used and the threaded part of the xr600 tripple trees is pressed out and pressed in to the atc tripples. if that is so lets set that in stone and move on to the forks used.

My thanks go out to any help.

I have done a bunch of full restoz on 4 wheelers, 3 wheelers and dirtbikes as well as a few custom
builds too.

I used the 350x front forks on my build. It started out as a xr500, then last year i dropped in a xr600 motor. I was going for a 350x look a like. Rides and handles like a dream.

I started with a xr650 and with a Lil work on the triple of a 85 tecate it bolted it.but it have me a low center of gravity. I was ok with it because it wasturned into my street trike. Obtw there are allot better motors to start out with those xrs are kind of a dog just my .02

I am just using what I have laying around and adding very little to it. I may do the XR650 e start upgrade (old xl crank and newer XR cases) not too sure yet. I have a 1985 ATC 250r front end coming from a friend and I know the fork tube sizes are the same dia as the xr600's so I will use the 250r's bottoms and triples and the XR tubes I will spell out everything once I get er done.

Do you think I can put the 600r tubes on the 250r bottoms?

just to be clear the 250r fork tubes I have are bent

I would say no, but just from looking at the pictures the XR600 forks look to be 2-3mm's bigger than the 250R forks, so that would never work.

mcgyver331

The Seal kit is the same part number so the dia is the same unless I'm missing something

mcgyver331

I must have missed something or bike bandit uses its parts numbers differently. The tubes were way bigger.

I went and pressed the 1987 XR600r steering stem out of the tripples and pressed it in to the 250r tripples, now I will do the build while I look for an extra fork tube.

To let everyone know the 250r stem and the 600 stem are the same diameter.

Just bend the 250r tube back into position. I did this with a set of 85 R forks I am using on my 84 fooler project. I have also straightened 350x forks, 200x forks, yamaha 225dx forks, etc. The key is to fully disassemble the fork, so you have just the upper tube. Put it in a press, and push it on the high spot (bend). You want to press it past, as the fork will spring back. It always takes a couple tries, but dont use too much pressure, and it will turn out 100% better than what it was.

Cool Thanks Yamaha_Rules69

I have built up the front end a bit, and now I'm looking to see what rear swing arm I can use.

The 300ex swing arms are too wide for the 600r opening. Next.....................

I wouldn't use a 300ex swinger on a XR frame, you'd be loosing the pro-link.

My cousin in working on one using a 1998 XR650L. I usually not a big fan of electric start but at least is solves the problem of a rearward kicking dirt bike motor hitting the rear fender. He is using the 350X frame but cut the cradle out of the 650 frame and welded it in the 350X frame. That part is done and the engine is in.

picked up a 350x +3 swing arm and a roller 200x this week. going to use the 200x front wheel and brake master. it came with 3 gold rims too. i wish i could use the axle but i need to have the adjustment at the rear not the engine cradle. does anyone know if a 200x axle fits in a 300ex carrier?

I must have missed something or bike bandit uses its parts numbers differently. bike bandit is useless for cross referencing parts, they don't use oem part #'s. Try hondapartshouse.com You can look up any brand on there.

That should help to see if the 200x bearings match to the 350x

XR600r has that built into the frame as a factory item.

Right, and so does the XR650L. But this is still a 350X frame (with 650L cradle). So the frame required some mods to hold oil and a dispstick.

I wouldn't, my 600 rides threw the whoops with ease, Gary (atc400x) was on my 600 over the weekend, he liked it better than the '85 250r he was riding.
Are you going to go with the 200x tank? I'm not sure if you thought about it, but I would go with a bigger tank, it would depend on where you were planning on riding. I went with a plastic clark tank for the 350x. It seems to hold enough gas to ride with a group, at least I haven't ran out yet, lol

Like most just using what I have available for now. I want a 350x clark and a estart 650 motor at the end of the adventure for now I will be happy with what I got. I do have another xr600r to mod after. Mabye my XR600 fatcat!!!!

Here I have set the rear linkage so the prolink will work and I have installed the subframe.

It looks wierd but the 27" front tire will level things out. I have a set of 25's in the rear and unlike everyone else I want a monster truck style trike If I need more stability I will get a +4 axle.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET. HE fired and up ran strong all over the property until the new plug fouled out from oil.

Now on to the motor rebuild while waiting to build up some cash for all the needed parts.

Will be a Thumb throttle have a bunch of 250x 300ex ones and air box is gonna be fun. I am going to keep it original and only mod what I need to be able to get it in there. I may just extend the hoses a bit.

I really wanted center mounted exhaust. we will see

Man, I have a street legal XR 600 and I'm wondering if I can convert it to 3 wheels and still have it legal here in PA.... hmmm..... Oh yeah, and mine's an '88, so only 1 carb cable to pull! Wonder if a 450r swinger would squeeze in there?

I could see if it is street legal already as long as you put street tires it would still be good. As for the 450r rear i dont know if it would fit at all. I do know shaving a 1/8 inch off each side of a 200x swing arm pivot and inside spacer makes it fit. Had to fab mounts for the pro link.

Once this is up and running and all bugs are worked out of it I will be tearing it down re welding many parts, gusseting it and painting it, new tires, new parts and so on. One thing I think I want is a plastic large capacity 200x tank.

I was going for a 350x look a like, so I had to lower my seat, doing that, the frame that holds the seat is at the same height as the airbox. I had to make a custom air box, which works rather well, at least it hasn't sucked in any water or dirt yet, lol.
I started out with a twist throttle, I couldn't get comfortable with it, so I went back to the thumb throttle. A good friend of mine is restoring a 600x, he has released the spring a half a turn on the main carb, says it works great with less tension, hopefully I can get out to the garage today to try it out.

Got her running on saturday ran allover the yard and in the woods for a bit. no fun with no brakes. Sprocket setup seems fine so far. Only issue i had with the positioning of the seat and rear sub frame is the pressure i was placing on the palm of my hands and that twisty has to go. I was able to swing it around fine i. The tight trails. Find out more when i get some brakes.

What cable do i need to use to get a thumb throttle working?

All I did was drill a center of a bolt that theads into the thumb thottle, made a slit into it so the cable can slide into it, then used the locking collar (that the thumb throttle has) at both ends so the bolt doesn't come apart. I don't get to the garage much during the week, I'll get a picture on the weekend if you still need it.
