new here to the forum, which i descoverd after scouring the net for information and ideas for my newly aquired 83 atc 70. my first "motorcylce" was an 82 70 and i was was pickin up a lincoln red face welder i had bought i looked over the fence in almost dis belief and there sat my first trike. naturally i asked him what he wanted for it and got him talked down to $250 trying desperatly not to let him see how badly i wanted it.

once taking it home i started tearing in to it with the intentions of making it "perfect" by fully restoring it. as i was looking for parts i had come across R55 motor sports and some info on A+ frames that were fully suspended. never had i thought to make a suspended 70, but had always been in love with the 250r's and figured that would be awesome. $2 grand for a frame seemd a little out of my budget and since im a welder and machinist both for the air force reserves and in my civilian work i decided to build my own.

i had a destroyed pos pit bike and decided to cannibalize it for parts. i got the front forks (may be a little small but we'll see) and the downtube for the swing arm pivot point, a klx 110 rear shock a bunch of scrap steel my welder torch and grinders so away i went.

i need to add 1" to the neck length of the stock atc frame and weld the pitbike neck on to accept the front forks. then cut the pitbike down tube and cope it into the atc frame moving the engine 1" towards the rear puting the pivot point for the swing arm just in front of where ill be comfortably sitting

I just built a 70 from th ground up powder coated frame 250r hubs piranha 150 motor. Man that things got some zip. But I wish I had suspension. I'm sure it will be nice. But I found once u buy one you probably have 2 have another.

Ya i want to do the 4 bolt conversion bad the douglas wheels r sick i want a taller skinnier front tire and wheel like the 250r's i think im going to have to break down amd make my own tho. Im already looking for another lol its an addiction for sure

Let's just put it this way I've ended up with six since I started twenty years ago. Well 5 and a half. Have a roller no motor. Just another project

400 ex hubs are the same as 250r but the have a half inch offset. That's another option if you go that way.

Sweet ya how ever much i stretch the frame i want to widen it the same to keep every thing in proportion. I was thinking about a Z50 front tire but i think i may be to thin i think in going to keep the front a steelie and section out 1/2" on either side and tig it back up making it an inch narrower and then an 18 tire up front with the 16 holeshots in the rear

I have a buddy that runs speedway bikes flat track wide open no breaks, he swears by the lifan 150cc 1D3U having a clutch and 4 gears would be sweet but im not sure i want Chinese knock off engine in my honda. I was born and raised to ride red thats all i and my entire family own. 150 would be cool but im wondering if i could stuff a 185 or 200 honda in it

i didnt stretch my frame the 150 just fits but the front fender doesnt. I always wanted 2 do say a cr 125 but i never have come across any motors. The next one will have suspenion def. your rite about the knockoff by the way its a first 4 me.

Im going win an inch in the front to clear the tank cuz my new neck and triple clamps are shorter than factory and i want to clear the tank with no issues and im moving the engine back an inch and the swing arm pivot for weight distribution. I want the pivot point just forward of where im going to be sitting. 2 stroke would be sweet but where i am 2 strokes r basically only allowed to be ran on a burn day which is amost never so im lean towards 4 stroke still and would like to keep it green stickered so i could ride at state parks like pismo and sand mountain without as much hassle

California blows lol smog sux all our restrictions suck damn hippies faking away everything fun! Hell they tried closing sand mountain because an endangered moth lives 6" under the sand till it hatches lives for a week then dies!! I say let a #2 paddle dig em out it puts less strain on my bug zapper haha
