Unless you are the person who bought it brand new in '85 then you really don't know it's entire 27 year history and what it's been through. Steel gets fatigued over years of use and sometimes cracks can occur.

lazybiker79
09-01-2012, 07:54 PM
Yeah it does get dirty faster.. but you get more power :w00t:

william16339
09-01-2012, 07:54 PM
yeah exactly,,i dont llike the light .....i like my 250r wide low and with a number plate lol...(not like super low like 2 inches lower than stock or less)

But it's not a huge difference, and if you ride in any kind of wet conditions at all it's not worth the trouble. Engines don't like their fuel/air mix with a shot of water.... Great for dunes and dry condtitions though! :beer

What I have done is kind of a blend of both approaches.... I removed the snorkel pipe that connects the airbox to the main frame backbone. While it does pose a little more risk of water ingestion, it does open up the airflow alot while providing most of the protection of running the full airbox. Had to jet up 2 sizes when I removed that snorkel pipe.

That might be a better alternative for you if you want better airflow without running a full airbox eliminator setup.

william16339

really? i didnt know that i thought the engine just breathes beter...but it would efect jetting right

william16339
09-01-2012, 07:57 PM

lazybiker79
09-01-2012, 07:58 PM
I was a world of difference on mine just taking the air box lid off..

Really not hard at all if you are mechanically able.

We are glad to help here at 3WW, but some topics have been covered quite thoroughly and a little time searching certain topics (like fork rebuilding) should net you plenty of results. Give it a try and check back.

You running a shorty lever??? If yes, switch to a full length clutch lever. That will make the clutch easier to pull.

Is the play between the carrier and swingarm, or between the axle and carrier?

Are you sure you aren't mistaking bad swingarm pivot bearings for play in the axle??

I also have the Durablue +4 on mine. I also have ITP rims with more offset than the stock R rims making my R a total of 6" wider than stock.

I rarely "trail ride" my R. I ride almost exclusively on seasonal gravel roads in Lewis County (Tug Hill) where there are long straights and sweeping curves. I absolutely LOVE how my R handles with that wide rear-end!

Hey there and welcome to the site. I see you have started 10 different threads with questions you have about your 250r - for future reference it is generally better to put all your questions in 1 thread if they are about the same bike even if it is different topics....much less clutter.

Get used to the heavy clutch then!! LOL!

It really is a matter of perspective...... To person A, a clutch may seem very heavy, but to person B it may seem fine.

It could also have heavy duty clutch springs in it. That would make the clutch harder to work. Only fix would be to switch to standard clutch springs.

If the carrier itself is worn to the point there is slop between the outer race of the new axle bearings and the inside bore of the carrier then a new carrier is in order. Sometimes people will keep on riding on a bad set of axle bearings, and then at some point the bearings will grenade and the sprocket and/or brake rotor hub will make contact with the carrier housing ruining the carrier. I have seen it more times than I care to count.

Find out exactly where the slop is and go from there..

I used a piece of PVC pipe I just happened to have laying around that happened to be the perfect size.

It needs to slide over the fork and contact the seal without dragging in the lower fork housing.
