There this 350x forsale about 3 hours from me and i dont know if its worth it to go and get it or not, i would be about 900 bucks into it after gas, the guy says it has lots of compression but hasent started it since hes had it, but was told it was running 5 months ago, it dosent look pretty but everything is all there to do a build , just wonder what other people think?153857153858153859

Looks like it needs too much work for the $. You'd be into it more then you would if you bought a mint one after you fixed this one up.

I know prices in Canada are higher than here in the states, but that one is really rough. What I've noticed is that when the cosmetics are as horrendous as that one (sorry, it is terrible) then usually the mechanicals are equally bad. The statement that the current owner has not gotten it to run but says the previous owner said it ran fine is a red flag to me. I think the assumption should be that the motor needs to be gone through. Assume bearings and brakes need service. With all the cosmetics this thing needs (if that's important to you) you will easily spend well over what you can get decent runner for, and probably a very nice one. If all that stuff is good, then it is a bonus, but unless it can be shown and demonstrated that that stuff is fine, the assumption is that it's bad.

So, the point is: make an offer accordingly. If it were in Michigan, I'd offer 1/2 of what he is asking. Then, if the things turns out to be too far gone once you start tearing into it, you can get your money back in parts.

Well I went and looked at it today, drove 4 hours to get there, and its a rough machine but hard to find them around here. So I kicked it over and it felt really good, put some gas in the tank turned the gas on choked it and it started in 5 or 6 kicks haha!, the back bearings are shot to f%$k, and needs a new pipe from half way back and a carb kit( it leaks fuel) al the other bearings are tight no rust in gas tank, other then that and cosmetics it runs good and sounds quiet, starts first kick everytime now, took it for a driveand threw 500 bucks on the seat and said take it, I am the prowd new owner of a 1985 350x!

$500 is a good deal. Put a few Hundred into it, and it may be a great bike.

I duno if its just me or, if its the bike, but it dosent feel to have a lot of power. I have a carb rebuild kit and all now bearings and exaust on the way, it had the baffels taken out of the muffler thats on it now, so its almost like a straight pipe, will these bikes burn valves out easy if they have no back pressure?

That's a good deal around here, hard to find and owners usually want double what its worth. Last 350 I looked at was in much worse shape and the owner wouldn't budge lower than $1000. With a little work your bike has potential to be a great bike

Agreed, I scored my 350x last weekend and it needs some help (got mine for $500 too!) but see things are like tanks and seem to run forever. I wouldn't have spent the money otherwise :)
Nice score!
