ill break this off my previous thread as I think its cleaner this way.... sorry... let me know if its a problem...

so, the 'new to me' big red is missing its external brake hardware....
I have looked at the service manual and honestly the pictures are not that great... but...
it looks like I may not even have an 84 200es brake drum.... maybe someone will recognize this beast...
(or maybe im completely wrong and it is the right one...)

incidentally, i just realized the front rim is 9" and the rears are 8"

any thoughts??

That entire brake assembly is wrong, the wheel size looks right but you said its a 9"? Is that going by the tire size or did you actually measure it?

The 200ES brake has a pin that sits in the hole on that flat piece on the down tube.

yeah, I was pretty sure it wasnt the original equipment... :)
looking at the rims they appeared different... therefore, i looked at the tire size... 9 on front 8 on back...
i understand they should all be 25 x 12 x 9 tires.... the fronts and backs are all Carlisles...
so... is this a drum from another honda someone recognizes??? or anything else anyone recognizes....???
Ive gotta get the brakes working... I can fab something simple.. but if its a honda then maybe it is compatible with
my front forks with different hardware... (like a newer model???)

Someone probably tossed a different set of tires on the back then, just grabbed a set that happened to be 8" wheels and tires, your front tire and wheel is the stock size but the brake drum is definitely from another model/year. I am pretty sure its from a 250 by the looks of it, it won't work on your 200ES because you need a totally different casting which has the pin that goes into the hole to locate it.

There is the complete assembly.... Pull the axle and swap the whole thing over and your done. Just need a brake cable.

Edit: Just noticed the seller said it needs new bearing and brake shoes... But that would only be about another $40 for bearings, seals, and shoes and it would all be freshened up and ready to go.

I am now pretty sure that you have a front brake assembly from a ATC250SX, looking at the manuals and the few examples i could find on ebay thats what i am betting it is. You would be better off buying a complete 200ES setup even if it needs rebuilding with bearings, seals, and shoes. Then you will have all the proper parts and it will mount up correctly.

thanks... if figured it must have been from a newer sport model... it appears to be much larger than what seems to be standard for the 200es....
again, thanks alot!!

I agree, looks very much like an SX brake asembly..

Sammie: I don't live to far from you. Did you recently buy that BR from a seller in Cleveland?? It looks alot like a BR I have been seeing on CL lately..

A lot of people that come to the shop say: It's not a matter "If" we have it, it's a matter of where is it. You have to see the shop to truely understand!! LOL

ok, now im a little bummed.. I got the right front brake assembly (84 200es 9x9 150/4) (I've done some homework... just enough to be dangerous)

but the chart i read (mudthrowers) isn't telling me what the front was on the SX

the 200M and the TRX200 had the 150/4

I measured the front as best I could and it could be 150 (5 7/8") (almost definitely larger than 130)

any references on what the front was on the SX

I hope I dont have a front hub assembly coming for which I dont have a wheel... :(
Ive got enough going on with getting the rears right.... maybe the rears will have to wait...
I need brakes... OH HECK, WHO NEEDS BRAKES???!!!

I posted some before and caused a bunch of keyboard damage from the drooling. Imagine a 40x64' building stuffed full and over 1/2 of it is stacked 9-10' high. LOL

I will do that tomorrow afternoon... I will say the lug nuts were much larger on the front wheel than on the rear 130/4's
