I dont see alot of talk about this trike on here. Has any one else ever built one? I have mione completely stripped down and torn apart right now. Everything is getting painted and im replacing every servicable part from the rear wheel bearings to the handle bar grips. Ive had the trike for over 10 years but never actually ridden it. I will post before and after pics when its done.
My problem is I dont know what I can do with this engine, it seems everything I see is for the 185s. Are the engines the same? Has anyone else built one with extra performance??
Also Ive got a brand new old school turfbuster in the front and two turf tamers in the back. Big tires, is there a smaller rim that will fit so I can have a set of smaller, sportier tires on when im not riding in the snow and such?

Maybe I'm just not that great with the search function but I cant find much of anything on the '80 185

This is what im talking about. Most are the 81-83 S models. Im talking about the 1980 exclusive 185 Big Red

The 1980 185 does not and has never held the Big Red moniker, that I know of. Its nice its a 1 yr only model, the one I have needs a lot of love, thats why I am not sure what direction to head with it.

It is actually orange :) So it's not any type of big red haha

I sold mine. Got it running and lost interest, Just not a huge fan of the rigid's.

I have one, it's a tank. When I got it, it had a bad top end. I had a 200 engine, so I put it in there.

Mine is in the process of being black. All the old orange was faded and poopy.

Awesome trike! They were the baddass on the block when they came out.
The first 2 trikes I ever rode were a first gen 185 and KLT200 we rented at Pismo...

As I recall, the earliest versions of the Clymer's shop manual had a performance section. Not in the newer versions, probably for liability reasons. Some say "Service, Repair, Maintenance" on the cover and some say "Service, Repair, Maintenance, Performance" - as I recall. I think the triked on the cover is actually a tweaked 185. Been 30 years though so I could be wrong.

Anyway, the 185/185s/200/200s engines without electric start all interchange so performance mods are all the same.

Hmm. Never heard of just a 185.

It was a 1 yr machine, 1980 only.
