I'm trying to get my 87 200x dialed in. When I bought it, the man said he put a brand new carb on it, which he did, but it appears to be the Ebay carb. It starts fine, first kick, idles nicely, but when you drive it and punch the throttle, it just bogs like its out of gas or getting way too much. If the RPM's are built up slightly though and then you punch it, it will open up then. I tried playing w/ the air screw since I have no idea what size main jet is in it. Took it 2 turns out like it is supposed to be, still bogs. Needle is on 3rd notch like it is supposed to be. When i turn the choke on when it is bogging, it comes back to life. So as of now I have air screw all the way in and it still bogs. Also, occasionally while it is idling, it will idle for about 5 seconds then almost die, then bring itself back up again. My best guess is to get a 110 and 115 main jet and see if that helps. Any suggestions? The spark plug looks lean to me in the pic.

Yup, sounds lean. Got any pics of this 87? They are one of my favorites mostly due to their rarity.

Exactly what happened to my 86 200x. I just got a really good used one off Ebay, and it took care of that issue.

It doesn't look the best yet, but if I can get it running right, it will some day.

ordered a 110,115, and 120 main jet for the carb. I put the 120 in first and what a difference that made. This thing opens up great now. Only issue it has now is that it will idle nice for about 10-15 seconds, then stumble and almost die, then back to life again for another 10-15 seconds. I'm guessing a float issue?

either that or an air leak

Almost sounds like an air leak if its running good otherwise now, have you checked the color of the plug? Did you replace the o-ring between the carb and intake or did the previous owner? Also the o-ring on the intake that seals it to the head, most of the time when people mess with the carb they don't replace those and it ends up leaking.

No, haven't changed O-rings or checked plug yet, but it did it before I changed jets and I sprayed carb cleaner all around the intake while it was running and it didn't affect it.
