So there's a front loader in the parking lot.
When I asked why it was in the middle and in the way, the 'guy' said the oil light came on so they shut it off.

welp?
To check the oil, you need a mechanic to check the oil but nothing can happen without an engineer on site and only an operator can fire it up to check for leaks.

Maybe he was joking but I have my doubts.

Sounds JUST like a Union worksite.

Not even close! He didn’t mention a supervisor, or an OSHA rep and no one asked him to call the EPA to report that the oil may have leaked out.

They actually do have an "oiler" classification for heavy equipment operators unions, at least around here.

EH, who cares.. The operator whos responsibilty it is to do a pre-shift check of his equipment doesn't have a nickel invested... The boss will buy a new one if it needs be.

(I say tounge-in-cheek)

I can tell you this. I drive a big rig for a living, and if any driver where I work was neglegent in his responsibility and cooked an engine because he ran it out of oil he would be looking for a new job on the spot...
