Here's a quick question that I've thought about for a while, but can't seem to figure out the answer. Why did Honda make a 200cc and 185cc ATC in the early eighties. There's only 15cc difference between the two...what's the point? Wouldn't it be better to space out the engine displacement bigger than that?

The reg atc200 was a bigger bike with 25" tires were the 185s was smaller and a litttle more sporty with 22" tires . They each had their purpose and very different .

Hmmm...."very different"? I don't understand how - other than the difference in tire size. If they were side by side not sure that there would be much difference between the two - hence why most of their parts are interchangeable. Just doesn't seem to me like Honda was reaching out to a larger market with these two models being so similar.

The only parts that interchange are the motor parts , all the rest are very different , frame is longer forks are much larger exc , exc , ...... If your thinking of the 200s it was made after the 185s and took its place .

I was referring to the 200, not the 200s. But anyways thanks for explaining.

also a sellers market = just like almost every manufacturer makes a model and then a few years later makes a better one = so people will upgrade .. more $ for the company's ....

Depends on which 200 and 185, but engine wise, the 200 is pretty much the 185 but bored over slightly, but the 185 is said to have more top end than the 200, the 185 has a slightly higher compression ratio, but the 200 has more low end torque.
