With max psi in the tires, why is it that the original 185 could achieve a top end speed of 65mph on tar, but the 200 only breaks 55mph? The gearing must be different (Transmission) because the trikes have the same tire size and sprockets?

Gearing and sprocket size i believe, i think it was discussed recently on here. There isn't much else different, you re-bore or put a 200 top end on the 185 bottom end and you basically have a 200.

I would love to see the 185 hit 65 mph, was it in the back of a truck going down the highway

If a 185 did 65, then my R must be good for at least 90....

Not sure where you got your info, but the 185 is about a 50mph machine give or take

Yeah i wasnt going to mention the speed... But i have been on some 185's, even a couple with speedo's that i knew to be accurate as i repaired them and checked by GPS, and the tops i could get out of them was 45-50. My 200ES will do about a needle width under 50 without all the accessories loaded up on here and not towing anything, she feels like if she had a sixth gear she could stretch out a bit faster but thats about tops.

Maybe if i was a bit skinnier, and i stripped down the 185's i have ridden to bare essentials to lose some weight, and did a good tuneup on them, i might and i say might be able to hit 55-60, but it would be scary at those speeds unless it had good tires! Every one that i have ridden wobble bad above 40.

Well my information is from an old cousin of mine back in the day. All he had to do is fill the tires so they got huge and hard, and I guess it flew. I don't think he'd lie, this is the original 185 Im talking about not the S.

Hey man, I don't know, it wasn't my trike, it was an older cousin of mine's back in the day. But all I know is that he passed cars with the thing. I'll look more into it.

LOL, sure if you reduced the drag by making the tires firmer you can get some more speed out of it, i would hate to see the consequences of popping an overinflated tire at 65mph though!

A side note on that, different types of tires get larger, and maybe they were taller than 25X12, Hard to say, I don't have a picture or anything of that old machine.
