Hey everyone,I'm new on here and need some info if you could help me out please. I found an 85 250r for sale for 1000$. However, its not running apparently needs a new crank case on the chainside??? Plastics are intact as are the wheels.Im looking for a complete frame up project, but don't know if this price is fair here in Canada. I will say this though she is looking pretty worse for wear. Iv'e found some 84's for same price running, but sorta want the liquid cooled model.

Any input would be appreciated,cheers!!

If your not mechanically inclined i wouldn't get it. The reason i say this is that to rebuild that engine, it would cost you more than a $1000 to have someone do it for you. I know for a fact if you do get the trike you can part it out for way more than $1000 and use that money to get one that is perfectly functional. Now if you don't want to wait just get the airfooler and have some fun. I have both a 86 250r and a 82 250r and i tell you what, that 82 halls ass with just a little up grades. Just putting some performance reeds bigger intake manifold and a 86 carb and bigger sprocket in the front and smaller sprocket in the back will give you some speed if that's what your looking for.

Left side case halves are always the ones that break due to throwing a drive chain and therefor aren't what I would call cheap to find one that is undamaged. But, if it's not absolutley destroyed you can have them re-fabbed and welded up almost good as new.

If it looks beat along with the broken case half, 1000 is more than I would spend.. All the "little things" it probably needs really add up. I say it probably needs alot more because if it visually looks beat, that is usually a tell-tale sign of long term neglect and you will likely find more wrong than meets the eye at a glance.

Just so you know, a good resto-mod will always cost you more than you will be able to sell it for after it's all done.....It is almost always a losing investment monetarily, but IMHO fun factor bringing an old legend back to life and getting it back to makin dirt dance more than offsets the financial end of it...

Yeah im looking for a project ,not really an oppurtunity to make a profit. I'll show the ad ,so you guys can see too. I have spoke to the owner but he's pretty firm on his price. It's a three hour drive so Im wondering if its worth it before making the trip.

Yeah the trike looks ruff. I agree with RIDE-RED 250r, if it looks as ruff as it does it has been neglected and probable not worth the investment. You'll find out that you will be spending allot more money than expected in fixing that thing.

I would pass on the '85 for what the seller is set on for the price. The '84 even though it's not quite on the same level performance-wise as an '85 sounds like a much better deal....

I would highly recommend saving your pennies untill a decent 3rd gen comes along. That 85 is beat to hell, and well, the 2nd gens just are not as fun!

Liquid all the way brother.

Yeah after thinking about what you guys said, 1000$ is to much for a set of wheels lol. I could spend the money and buy a mint shape ride, but Im looking for a project more then a ride.I have my street Bob for that.
