Hi everybody. Earlier this year, I purchased a 1987 200x form a guy in Chesterville. At the time I did not realize what I had bought. Since this is the first year I have ridden a trike, I didn't know very much about them. I've been reading some restorations recently, and thought I would post the progress of mine. When I got it, it was very rough, and needing lots of help. The main reason we got it was because the transmission was jammed on it, and it just so happens we had an 86 engine laying around from my dad's trike. He had an 83, third gear went out on it so he bought this, not knowing it doesn't fit. After he found it doesn't fit, he sold the 83 and this 86 engine has been sitting in our basement for about 6 years. Anyway, we bought the 87 and put the 86 motor in it. I will be posting pics of my progress later.

This is what it looked like when we first got it, the front hub and the swing arm bearings had about a half inch of play, it had 83-85 plastics on it no front fender, headlight was broken, wrong seat, and as I said before the whole tranny was messed up. We to the original motor out to be packed up for selling or fixing later. Then put the 86 in.

Thanks everybody. I love this trike too. Here are some shots of what it looks like first day we put the engine in it and re jetted it. We put the stock fenders back on. It looks better already. The second pic is what it looks like first time we took it to the trails. I took the headlight off because it was broken and I hadn't repaired it yet. 159834159835

I began taking the 87 motor apart to fix the transmission about a month ago. Originally, I figured it would only be sixth gear broken as the guy we bought it from said sixth gear was messed up, but when we spilt the case, as it turns out, about three single gears were broken/had some teeth broken. We bought a transmission off ebay. Here are some pics of what the old transmission looks like. 159862 159863 159863159864 159865

If anybody is interested in the old tranny, it still has some good gears and good shafts, also has a good shift drum, and two good shift forks. Looking to get about 40 bucks out of it. If your interested, let me know. Thanks.

Ya know, it boggles my mind as to what degree a person has to abuse a wheeler to do that kind of damage to a transmission.... I mean, look at all the 250r's and 350x's with transmissions still going string and running like new.

Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing that revived '87! :beer

I recently purchased some front and rear fenders off ebay as well as a seat, grab bar, and a tail light. Here are some pictures of what they looked like before I cleaned them up. 159895159896159897159898

At present, it is missing nothing major except the exhaust and the key switch. I have found plenty of exhaust systems, but only one key switch. Unfortunately, I had not bought the key switch when it was for sale, so if anyone can lead me in the direction of one, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you for you replies and support. I hope to get my trike looking very good some day, and as close to 100% stock as possible.

It's been a while since I've updated, but I have gotten some very nice uncut, unbroken, and uncracked fenders. They have lost their shine, but look really good. I will be working on shining them in the future. If anyone has some tips on the best ways to make fenders look new, please let me know. I have also gotten a blue seat and the fender brace. The seat is not very nice, but it is a good rider and looks better than brown or black. I have also gotten a stock exhaust system for it, and re painted it. I re-jetted it and put it on. It looks very nice. It really sounds and performs differently than the dg system I had on.

To make it a proper restoration, the only other parts I need are as follows: stock ohtsu tires, the key switch/dash, the air filter, and air filter element.
If anyone could help me find these parts, it would be greatly appreciated.

I also rebuilt the original engine which had a bad transmission. I put it back in the other day.
Here are some pictures of how the machine looks now.170263170264170265170266

Hi, everyone! I haven't updated in awhile, but now I have finally obtained a keyswitch for my trike. It's oem and in great shape. It still has one of the original keys. The only problem is the wires were cut. However, I will be able to connect it to where the original keyswitch wires were cut from my machine. I'm one step closer to a restored machine.179093179094179094179095

Your trike is really looking good compared to when u got it. I got an 87 myself not long ago and gave it to my girlfriend, she absolutely loves it. Nice score on the OEM dash, I'm still searching for one lol

186035186021186024186025186026Update. A few new parts I recently got, a new oem seat and an oem 1987 air cleaner. The seat is nos, from England. It looks so good on the bike and is correct for 1987, since there are no atc logos on the sides. The air cleaner outer yellow part is nos and the pre filter cage is used but correct for 87. The 87 is different from 86, which had a cage vs the 87 which has a paper element. It's getting closer to original. Just looking for some oem fork boots, oem tool kit, oem owners manual, and oem ohtsu tires, if anyone knows where I can find any of these items please contact me.

I have recently obtained a few parts for my machine. I have a set of ohtsu 701s that are in terrific shape, no dry rot and very good tread. I have a set of "like new" handle bars that I put some brand new grips, end caps and hardware on. I got an nos atc speedometer. If anyone has a kit or the whole system, for the 86-87, for sale, please contact me. I got another keyswitch. The plastic is a little rough but it's oem, and the wire hasn't been hacked up like my other one was. I got a pair of used oem fork boots, and last but not least, an nos pair of fork boots for the second gen 200x. They look beautiful alongside my nos seat. 197063197064197065197066197067
