1985 Yamaha 225 dr air filter

I'm in the process of taking some stuff apart and tuning this thing up. I took apart the air cleaner and there was no element. There was just the metal cage thing, but it was no longer attached to the airbox. It was just clanking around loose inside the airbox.

I looked on ebay and there was a replacement part for the metal element, but it did not mention having a foam element that went with it.

Were these supposed to have the metal inside and another foam one around the metal screens? Is this typical for the glue to come undone between the metal and the plastic airbox?

i ran across the same issue with my 84 225dx, its just foam around the metal screen, there is a plastic spacer that kinda locks onto the filter pod assembily that should keep it snug in place as you put on the box cover. you can pick up any aftermarket filter on ebay for like $20 to replace the foam element, or if needed asap, a sock and zip tie will work makeshift. hope this helps you out
