I'm looking to buy new rear tires for my big red I was wondering what are the best mud tires to get. I also can't seem to find any of those brands in a 9 inch rim what are my options?

Big reds have a common bolt pattern, 4/110, most newer Honda rims will fit, just make sure the offsets will clear the exhaust on the right side. For tires, I vouch for 28" outlaws (not radial so much), my 350 warrior sport quad could go though more mud than any of my friend's 4x4 quads even with semi-aggressive tires (most run stock, or stock like). One thing to point out about the outlaws, on the warrior, the rear end would slide around very easy around corners, so I would suspect that might be a concern with a 3 wheeler, sliding some is good, but too much could be bad. Can't go wrong if it is for purely mudding though. You might want to look into upgrading the top end to a 350es or trx350 for more power, or stick with the smaller tires, I would think upto around 27 would be 'ok', a lot of times 2nd gear is nice to have power in for mudding.

Look into Kenda Bear Claws, I've had great luck with them. Had em on my 200S and it went just about anywhere.

I was thinking about getting these tires for the rear, or ITP mud lites (not sure which have larger lugs). I'm pretty sure the Kenda will not fit the front of my 85 SX because they are 12" wide. Obviously I am wanting mud tires but in everyones opinion, is it better to run a racing / sand tire up front instead of a mud tire?

For an all around great front tire, I like the kenda front Max. Seems to corner great in all conditions.

Since we are on the topic.... Which is a better mudder?

Kenda Bear Claw (22x12x8) or ITP Mudlite AT (22x11x8)???

I know the ITP's are 3/4" tread but not sure about the Kenda's (can not find that info).

I am not wanting to change out my rims, so I am stuck w/ an 8".

Cant give you any info on the Mud Lite, but heres the Bear Claw info-

20mm / 25.4 = ~.787"

So just a tad more than the Mud Lite.

I run claws on mine, other than digging on occasion i have no complaints, had it in 14" of snow last week, slow going but never got stuck, was able to go pretty much anywhere i pointed it, im running turf buster front though. Gonna try supergrip superlites next, 1/2 the weight of the kenda's and suppose to go as well but the tread design makes me think they might not dig as bad and they are mudlite clones.

I got the Bear Claws (25x12-9) last fall for my 200es big red and the thing is unstoppable in the mud and snow. I love them. I've always ran the nobby on the front.

Ive been doing my research on kenda bear claws vs the itp tires and im going to go with the itp for my 225dx. They look more agressive and have good reviews just like the bearclaws they have good reviews as well but to me the itp just looks meaner!

Im forced to disagree that the itp looks meaner :(

The kenda is 1" taller btw, side lugs are 7/8ths" Vs just over 5/8ths" tapering to 3/16ths. I dont expect them to go where the kenda's will, but I think the extra power to the ground may help on super steep hills and deep packing snow.

How is side to side sliding for around corners at speed with the ones on your machine? (bear claws?)

Outlaws have both of them beat for lug depth. 1 1/4" on top and wraps to the rim bead, side wall lug is 1 1/2" if I rememory correclty..

Pretty good details on them here: http://www.offroaders.com/reviewbox/showproduct.php?product=305

Just have to point out, side to side sliding around corners for trail riding is a LOT on a quad, so that is something to remember, they are puely mud based and work extremely well in the snow. I had a 28" set on a yamaha 350 warrior, regeared with custom oversized sprocket in the back and smallest in the front, and I still had to ride the clutch to move in the mud. Never got it stuck (mind you this is 2 wheel drive sports quad), and went though spots where 4x4 quads (more or less factory tires) couldn't make it. Don't matter the type of mud, it wouldn't really throw a rooster... just make you wheelie :D. Tread wear seems minium, been using them on and off for several years, probably around 8-9 years. They have cuts, but lugs are basically as deep as they were new.

Another thing to point out with outlaws, Stand clear of the radial version. My dad got them by mistake (ebay for you), and desided to keep them instead of the origs. They are probably 40-50 pounds PER tire! On a 450 Honda Foreman, when the fronts go flat (slow leak) you can't tell. When mounted on a Big Red side by side, the bearly squat down and that is a 1500 pound machine ^.^. No experence with the 'Outlaw 2' Tires.

Maxxis Zilla's own....ride and handle good one hardpack or trails but are badass in mud and wont break axles like outlaws. Go on some of the grizzly forums and search them..they love em..you will not be disappointed.

the bear claws will not break loose, so if you like to throttle steer and rooster than they are not for you. of course, if you don't want to be stuck, BUY EM. they go anywhere.
