Hello folks, new guy here. Ive been riding trikes since I was a kid and currently have two atcs at the moment, 1983 honda 200E that is undergoing a rebuild and a 1982 200 that im riding. I have a question regarding my 82 200. It runs really well, not losing oil and has good power and compression. But it white smokes from the exhaust horribly, i have adjusted the pilot and idle screws and it doesnt help. Spark plug isnt fouled and it starts easily. The smoke smells as if it is running rich but i have adjusted the carb pilot so it shouldnt be. I am completely stumped. If it were piston rings or valve stem seals i would be losing oil right? I did put 10w40 synthetic in it, and i adjusted the cam chain per manual instructions. Did i miss somethin? I appreciate any assistance, yall have a good evening.

Hi Porkchop! Welcome to 3WW. Is it smoking as your driving it and it's warmed up? Say 30 minutes into riding it? Or does it go away after awhile? If it's smoking badly after she's all warmed up and you've rode it for awhile that would be your rings. You should be able to find a new set on ebay. My guess is if it's burning oil.. then yes your probably losing some.

Yep, it smokes all the time. I was originally thinking bad rings, guess ill pull it out tomorrow and check. I shouldnt have to replace the piston unless its scored right? Thanks so much, its good to know where to start.

If you do take it out tomorrow why not post a pic? That way we can really tell you if you'll need a new one. No problem!

Good luck!

Thanks for the welcomes. I got the motor out but i am gonna wait until my parts kits come in, my 200E needs new rings and gaskets too so i figure i will kill 2 birds with one stone, no sense in tearing into them until i have all my ducks in a row. Its been a while since the 200E ran but i recall it acting similarly. Its gonna be nice to have two running trikes.
