They just pivot, they don't really latch. There is a bar on the handle and a channel shaped piece that it pivots in, when they extend at the hinge they just nest together. Hard to explain easier to show in person or in a picture. Depending on where you are in MN if you were close you could come study mine... Here is some pictures that will help.

I have made one modification that isnt in these pictures, i drilled through the pivoting arms to install a pin for safe travel, if you hit a bump hard enough to make it jump up and down it can drop down without a safety.

That small lever that you pull, what does that do?

I want to get one of these wicked bad for ice fishing. I can keep my bob house plowed out and plow a path so I can always use my wheeler instead of my snowmobile.

Oh im a long ways from TRF, unfortunately, i am way down in the SW corner of the state. The small rod that you pull up pulls the hinged arm up so that it starts to pivot and allows it to fold. If i get a chance i can try to make a video of it. I think there was a guy on Youtube that had a video of how this mechanism works also. Its just a basic hinge, it hinges all the way to straight then beyond straight and the upper bars end hits that flat piece welded across the bottom of the lower two bars. Its just held there by gravity, then you pull up on the little rod and that forces the hinge back past center and it folds and the lever goes forward and its drops down. I know its hard to picture how it works till you see it work. I will try to find that video.
