225dx trimoto wont start

Folks
my 1983 yamaha 225dx starts when I pull cord but not when I use electric starter. Starter turns over nice, but no ignition. Pull the cord--starts right up--Help!!!!

You could have a starter thats not getting enough power to turn it fast enough to start. Does it sound like its engaging the motor or free spinning?

another issue can be that your stator and starting coils have been damaged, mine has that issue, best way is to pull the stator cover and make sure to put a new gasket on there when done, and check it out. I didn't need any special puller when I checked my stator.
