Hi guys, its been a long time, ive been away from the fun for over 20 years.
I have a 85 Honda 250sx that ive had since new. Way back in 92 while out
riding with friends I heard the infamous rear end growl. Once home and torn
apart I found that my rear diff was cooked. Fast forward to about a week ago.
I decided after all these years that it was time to put it back on the road. I
guess family, life, work, and a ton of other hobbies had got in the way, but I
was finally ready to get it going again. I have already ordered, and recieved
the rear diff bearing and seal kit, but it looks like im going to need to find a
rear diff, or at the very least a ring and pinion. I dont have the pinion out yet,
and the teeth are good on the ring gear, but unfortunatly where the carrier
bearings ride is badly scarred up.
I am going to try and post up a wtb add tonight and see what I cant find.

Anyway, It looks like I have came to the right spot. I have already read a bunch
of posts, and there seems to be a ton of knowledgeable people here. :w00t:

Edit: And the new guy has already posted this in the wrong section. Mods feel
free to move this post to the new member commencement page.

Real nice trike you got there, glad to see you are gonna revive her! Also glad to see you get back into the hobbie/sport. I too am coming back to atc's after many years of life circumstances. The addiction has hit me hard, i have only jist begun with my big red and am already thinking about getting a sport trike(200x/350x). And I wouldn't mind a fine looking sx such as yours either! Ahhh....my wifes gonna kill me

Hey guys, quick question. I downloaded the 250sx service manual, but does anybody have a link to a parts manual? I wanted to look up some parts and get some numbers checked to see if they are still available from Honda.

Thanks!

your diff is on its way. all you need to do is go to hondapartshouse.com and look at their atv oem parts. they have all the microfiche's and show what is still available and the cost. thats where i found the options for the shims we needed. their prices look cheap but after shipping they are not. it is still cheaper to go to a local dealer if there is one near you. they listed those shims for like $8 but with ship it was like $13 and local dealer was $10.

i wasnt able to find bolts for you. sorry i forgot to text you back. you can get new ones from hardware store. if i remember right its just a m8 flange head bolt about an inch long. they wont look the same though. otherwise order from honda or ebay. for proper looking ones.

Well guys, here is the finished product. I took her for the first ride in over 20 years, and its still a blast!
I am still having some carb issues, (if you stab the throttle it stumbles) but other than that she is good to go!
Again, thanks to trikesavior for the rear end rebuild.

Thanks, I have been lucky enough over the years to have been able to store it indoors, so it wasnt subjected to the elements. So, after getting her running again, I only had to do a little clean up on her.

Funny thing..I opened mine just yesterday to find a similar condition..

166487

But I got lucky and found a guy on CL with a BR that had been involved is a crash many years ago and was in great shape (except the frame) and super low hours..

Went to his house last night and removed it myself and scored a beautiful clean diff for $125..

It's in and back together already.

glad to hear its back riding. and glad I could help. now that I see some better pics im jealous man. none of mine look half as nice but I brought those back from the dead. enjoy it man.

as far as carb.

if your using the old jets and the bike never stumbled 20 years ago. chances are there is a little tarnish on main jet makin the hole a bit smaller than it should be. they sell little round carb cleaning rods that have rough area to sand tarnish off.

if you bought rebuild kit make sure new jets are same size as old. it should be stamped on the jet near the tip.

other wise it may have needed it and you didn't notice 20 years ago. the midrange fuel mix is set by the needle on the carb slide. they are a pain to change on these bikes but its gotta be done. move the retaining clip down a notch on the needle and you should be good. moving clip down a notch on the needle actually moves needle up when assembled which will make it run richer in midrange.
